(El Monte) – Arroyo racked up five runs in the first inning and maintained the lead the rest of the way in an 8-5 win over Rosemead Monday in Mission Valley League action.
The first five batters reached base for Arroyo and they all scored to get the Knights off and running. Alessandro Lozano and Noah Fonseca both singled and Jacob Antuna walked to load the bases. Oscar Lopez lined a single to left to drive in a run and Riley MacMillian walked to force in another. Andres Mardueno doubled to plate two more and another run scored on a ground ball by Humberto Quirarte. After one inning the Knights were up 5-0.

Lopez threw two scoreless innings for Arroyo before allowing a run in the third. Lopez threw six innings and gave up three runs.
In the third Logan Mojica doubled home Carlos Villalobos who had singled for Rosemead to make it 5-1. The Panthers added two more in the fifth. Rigo Sanchez singled, took second on a ground ball and scored on a hit by Villalobos. Villalobos advanced on an error and came home on base hit by Sebas Genie.
The Panthers were within two but the Knights put it away with three more in the bottom of the fifth. Lopez doubled to drive in Antuna who had singled and then he scored himself later in the inning when Aiden Esparza was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. A bases loaded walk to Lozano scored another run for a five-run lead.
Rosemead got two in the seventh when a throwing error down the right field line scored Logan Mojica and Lucas Mojica. But Fonseca, who came on in relief of Lopez in the seventh got the final out.

Lucas Mojica started for the Panthers and threw four innings and Anthony Ruiz came on to go the rest of the way.
With the victory Arroyo improved to 13-8 overall and 8-3 in the Mission Valley League. The Knights are 1/2 game behind South El Monte but could pull even with the Eagles with a win over Mt. View Wednesday night. Rosemead fell to 11-15 and 6-5 in league.
