Ray Hernandez is excited about his first season in "The Swamp"
Ray Hernandez has been here before. No not at South El Monte, but in the position of building a program when the cupboard is nearly bare.
“We’re here to work hard,” says Hernandez. “And that’s what we’re going to do.
At La Puente he won a Montview title in his second year and many would be
hard pressed to name an offensive star on the squad.
He takes the field at South after the legendary careers of Jose Garay and Manny Acosta, after the transfer of Neiko Padilla, after a three year Eagle run producing two Mission Valley League titles and a ton of points.
Like every coach this time of year, he wasn’t about to name starters but likes what he sees out of the 55-plus out during the spring.
Quarterback, for now, will be a battle between to two players who didn’t throw a pass in 2008; Alex Ruiz and Mark Acosta.
The running game looks like it will be in the hands of Rene Flores.
“You know me,” Hernandez said not looking the least bit worried. “I’m not afraid to line up and pound the ball.”
