Game Night Southeast Division: Week Ten

Andy Villanueva

Thursday, November 11th

DEL RIO
La Serna (8-1, 4-0) at California (3-6, 3-1)

Last Meeting: 2009 California 56-7

Since 2001 California leads series 6-3

The Lancers can taste the Del Rio League title. Only team in its way are the defending champ Condors who have battled back from a 0-6 start to win its last three.

Most versatile running game in the Del Rio with Richard Alvarez, O.J. Medina and Tommy Ruiz, La Serna is difficult to stop. Defensively, it is about the linebackers headed by Jake Houts.

Complete game from California will be needed if they expect to stay in the game early. That means that Andrew Klein and Justin Dankert need to eat up yardage and time running the ball.

La Serna 42-14

Santa Fe (5-4, 3-1) at Pioneer (4-5, 1-3)

Last Meeting: 2009 Santa Fe 35-7

Since 2001 Santa Fe leads series 9-0

Seeing that the passing game is not able to carry the Chiefs, the running game has been employed with Alex Mirola. Justin Rincon will now need to just manage the game and the defense will be asked to keep the game close.

The Titans have all but been eliminated from post-season consideration after losing to California last week. Anthony Botello has been the bright spot of a remarkable season for Pioneer.

Santa Fe 35-14

PACIFIC
Burbank (7-2, 5-1) at Burroughs (5-4, 5-1)

Last Meeting: 2009 Burbank 28-21

Since 2001 Burroughs leads 6-3

The Bulldogs would like nothing more than to defeat its cross-town rivals and stop them from winning the Pacific League title. Ulises Ochoa and Quortney Brazier are good running backs that had big games against Crescenta Valley. Adam Colman is a difference maker on offense with his ability to just will his team to a win.

The Indians were in a perfect situation just needing a win against Muir to clinch a share of the Pacific. Instead, Burroughs must now win against a team that derailed its league title hopes last year. The most impressive offensive weapon for the Indians is Zander Anding. Anding is a fast but punishing running back.

Burbank 28-24

DEL RIO
Whittier (0-9, 0-4) at El Rancho (5-4, 1-3) – El Rancho 35-0

***

HACIENDA
Diamond Bar (6-3, 2-3) at West Covina (8-1, 5-0)

Last Meeting: 2002 Diamond Bar 40-14

The Brahmas will need to have a good showing for the wildcard committee to see that they deserve the final spot. Diamond Bar has a two quarterback system in Andrew Cameron and Henry Omana. They will have to contend with an all-out defensive attack of the Bulldogs.

West Covina took care of business by punishing Diamond Ranch. The Bulldogs are that good with Chris Solomon and B.J. Lee being the featured backs. Justin Meaders and Maurice Dupleasis might have a field day against a pass first offense in Diamond Bar.

West Covina 42-14

Diamond Ranch (5-4, 4-1) at Bonita (8-1, 4-1)

Last Meeting: 2009 Diamond Ranch 36-29

Teams have split the last four meetings.

After being beaten by West Covina, the Panthers must rebound against another good defense in the Bearcats. The running game will need to be in full effect for Diamond Ranch to be dominant. That means that Chase Price and Jacoby Carter will need to find running holes.

Good bounce back win against Rowland with the defense playing a big part of that. Garrett Pendleton got some much needed rest in the second half and the offense ran for 150 yards.

Bonita 28-21

Walnut (5-4, 2-3) at Los Altos (0-9, 0-5) – Walnut 42-7

PACIFIC
Crescenta Valley (4-5, 2-4) at Arcadia (6-3, 5-1), 7:00pm

Last Meeting: 2009 Crescenta Valley 42-13

Since 2001 Arcadia leads 6-3

The season mercifully ends for the Falcons with a trip to Arcadia. At one point Crescenta Valley was 4-1 and looking like a team that could contend in the Pacific, now they limp into the sunset with a rash of injuries.

The message to the Apaches this week, “don’t get hurt”! Arcadia has high aspirations and has made believers out of many with its play in 2010. Taylor Legace may get some play for Player of the Year.

Arcadia 42-21

Pasadena (4-5, 3-3) vs. Muir (5-4, 4-2) (Rose Bowl)

Last Meeting: 2009 Muir 34-12

Since 2001 Muir leads 9-0

It would be a shock if the Bulldogs win this, Pasadena has some playmakers and haven’t beaten Muir in a very long time.

Jeffrey Davis has willed the Mustangs to a playoff spot. After dropping four straight, they are now on a four-game winning streak . Muir shouldn’t have any trouble beating the Bulldogs for a trip to the playoffs.

Muir 35-14

Hoover (1-8, 0-6) at Glendale (0-9, 0-6) – Hoover 35-21

SUBURBAN

La Mirada (6-3, 5-0) at Bellflower (5-4, 2-3)

Last Meeting: 2009 La Mirada 30-3

Since 2001 La Mirada leads 7-2

Max Gama has finally stepped up to help lead the Matadores to another Suburban League title. La Mirada could have quit after being down early against Norwalk but should the resiliency of a champion to come from behind and win.

What a difference a week makes for the Buccaneers. Heading into its game against Cerritos they might’ve been looking ahead to La Mirada, which ended up biting them big with a loss to the Dons. Now they must step up and defeat the Matadores.

La Mirada 49-0

***

Cerritos (3-6, 2-3) vs. Glenn (1-8, 1-4) (Excelsior Adult School) – Cerritos 42-7
Norwalk (5-4, 3-2) at Artesia (0-9, 0-5) – Norwalk 49-0
