(Baldwin Park)-Manny Salcedo started his senior campaign off right leading the Baldwin Park Braves to victory over the Nobles of Nogales 26-16.Midway through the fourth the Braves shut the door on a potential Noble comeback by posting an eight play 80-yard drive to go ahead 26-16. On third and eight Salcedo kept the drive alive by completing a 38 yard pass to Mario Rodriguez. Again on third and four Salcedo connected with Christian Lazaro for a gain of 21. Two plays later Jesse Moran rumbled in from 12 yards out to finish off Nogales.
The first drive of the season for the Nobles was a good one. Trent Murray took a reverse from Timothy Guerra 58 yards for the first score of the night. Nogales then stopped BP on the next drive and forced the Braves to settle for a field goal.
In the second as Baldwin Park started to turn up the heat. Salcedo hooked up with Lazaro in the corner of the end zone for a touchdown.
On the ensuing drive for Nogales a bad snap on a punt attempt went through the back of the end zone for a safety putting Baldwin Park up 12-7.
On the next drive Salcedo took a quarterback draw up the middle 28 yards as Baldwin Park added its 19th unanswered to go into halftime 19-7.
The Nobles were able to tack on a field goal and a touchdown to make things interesting in the second half including 26 yard touchdown run by Guerra to cut the lead to 19-16. But it’s as close as Nogales would get.
Up next for the Braves will be Montebello on September 11th at Montebello.
