Gladiators Defeat Another Valle Vista Opponent

(Baldwin Park)-Gladstone, behind the arm & legs of Kevin Amezquita, found itself behind in another bout with a tough Valle Vista opponent, but managed another muscling come-from-behind win after outscoring Baldwin Park 35-19 on the Braves home field.

Amezquita, the do-it-all quarterback for Gladstone, racked up a total of 219 yards and three touchdowns for the Gladiators, especially when his team needed it.

Down 13-7 in the first quarter, Amezquita broke loose on a 43 yard run which set up tailback Aaron Sanchez for a 1-yard TD run. On the play give an assist to Amezquita who helped push the pile ala the “Bush Push” and the score was 14-13 with 7:16 in the first, giving G-Stone their first lead.

After that the Gladiators never looked back.

Amezquita found Sebastian Kirchfeld for a 29 yard strike right before half and it was 21-13 with 22 seconds on the clock. Then late in the third, an eight yard drive was capped off by another one yard touchdown by Sanchez, this time no push.

Late in the game, Brave quarterback Anthony Flores found speedy reciever Alex Delgado wide open. Delgado made one defender missed, then raced down the sideline for a 44 yard TD.

Delgado also scored on the first play of scrimmage when Baldwin Park came out firing with some trickery.

Niko Carravantes hiked the ball and pitched it to Flores, who then launched a bomb and touchdown to Delgado for to open the scoring 7-0 with 11:42 remaining in the first.

With the loss Baldwin Park falls to 0-3 while Gladstone, which beat Northview last week, improved to 2-0.
