Friday 10/12
Montview League
Azusa (5-3) v. La Puente (6-2)
Last Year: Azusa 50-21
A lot is at stake in this game as a win means a share of the Montview and a loss means a long road trip in the playoffs. The Aztecs will need to guard against a letdown after last week’s huge win and the Warriors want to avenge the shellacking they took from Azusa last year. Based on mutual opponents this game is a pick-em.
La Puente 28 Azusa 27
Sierra Vista (5-3) at Duarte (4-4)
Last Year: Sierra Vista 27-21
This game is not just for pride as a possible wildcard playoff berth is on the line. Last year’s win by the Don’s kept the Falcons out so Duarte will want to exact some revenge. The only team with an advantage in this one is that the Falcon’s are at home and it will be enough.
Duarte 24 Sierra Vista 19
Olympic
Valley Christian (2-5) at Maranatha (2-6)
Last Year: Valley Christian 26-18
This is a very different Minuteman team than the one that started 0-5. Maranatha gave Whittier Christian all it wanted last Friday night and know second place in the Olympic and post season is within their grasp. Hasn’t played well since week one against Duarte (the win over Heritage last week notwithstanding) giving up an average of 45.8 points in their five losses. Pete Karavedas and his staff know two wins and second place in the Olympic is theirs. Maranatha gets it done.
Maranatha 27 Valley Christian 14
Pioneer
El Segundo (4-4) at Centennial (2-6)
Last Year: El Segundo 21-20
The Eagles need this game if they want to remain in second place in the Pioneer. Right behind them is Torrance who gets the league’s week sister Lawndale. Centennial needs the win to keep pace and climb into the third spot if they want any hope for post season play.
El Segundo 31 Centennial 21

“I firmly believe that any man’s finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in good cause and lies exhausted on the battle field – victorious.” Vince Lombardi
Both teams are undefeated. Both have been at the top of the Northwest polls the entire season. The league title is on the line in probably the biggest game of the year in the Northwest Division. Does ‘fate of the world” fit here? Rangers are averaging 41.3 ppg led by Tanner Workman’s and Tayler Livingston’s 34 scores. The Cardinals counter with a 45.1 ppg led by Anthony Carter’s and Abel Gonzalez’s 25. The defenses for both teams have been stellar. So where is the difference? Turnover differential. Plus 15 for the Cardinals and plus 5 for the Rangers.
Bishop Deigo 35 Nordhoff 33
Love that this game is on Saturday. Should be well worth the two hour drive!
