Week 9 Roundups: Mid-Valley Division

Viewpoint 52, Marshall 12

The regular season came to an end for the Eagle (3-7, 0-6) as they dropped their fourth consecutive game since their win over the City Section’s Angelou in a loss to the Patriots (4-5, 2-3) Friday night at Calabasas High.

Despite the loss, the Eagles finished the season with their most wins since the 2004 season. Mark Merino and Josh Bascou recorded the Eagles’ two scores, with Merino putting the Eagles up 6-0 to start the game. However, the Patriots would score the next 52 points before Bascou’s score bookended the scoring.

 ALMONT

Bell Gardens 26, San Gabriel 19

The Lancers (7-2, 4-0) solidified their hold on the top spot in the Almont League as they held on to knock off the Matadors (2-7, 1-3) Friday night at San Gabriel High’s Matador Field.

The Matadors had a 12-0 lead in the second quarter when the Lancers got two touchdowns from Charles Ontiveros, rushes of 35 and six yards, to send the game into the half tied. In the third, the Lancers broke the game open with a third score by Ontiveros, from 18 yard out, and Jorge Remigio’s 55-yard run.

The Matadors closed the gap with a touchdown throw by Marqus Valenzuela early in the quarter but still fell short.
RIO HONDO
South Pasadena 41, Blair 0

The Tigers (6-3, 2-2) kept their slim playoff hopes alive by handing the Vikings (0-9, 0-4) their seventh shutout of the season Friday night at South Pasadena’s Tigers Stadium.

The season of futility continues for the Vikings, who have now loss 18 straight games and have dropped 20 consecutive Rio Hondo League contests. their last wins came last year against the City Section’s Fulton and in 2008 against the Tigers.
VALLE VISTA
San Dimas 49, Pomona 14

The Saints (8-1, 5-0) remained tied for first in the Valle Vista League as they exorcised the Red Devils (3-6, 2-3) from playoff contention with their win Friday night at Pomona High’s Red Devil Stadium.

The Saints took a 14-0 lead before the Red Devils scored with two minutes left in the quarter on an 80-yard score by Donavon Davis. However, the Saints would score two more before Davis scored again, an 18-yard run midway through the second. The Saints would shut out the Red Devils in the second half and score twice in the third before calling in the reserves for the fourth quarter.
