Elffers Chooses the Cougs

Maranatha quarterback Andrew Elffers has decided to play his college football at Azusa Pacific University.

Elffers burst onto the scene for the Minutemen in the fall of 2010 when he threw 37 touchdown passes running the spread offense for then head coach Joel Murphy. As a junior under Pete Karavedas, and running a West Coast offense, Elffers threw 22 touchdown passes. This past season he saw limited action with a knee injury in September.

In his Maranatha career Elffers totaled over 6,000 yards in the air and tossed 63 touchdown passes.

He’ll be joining APU, Division II, this fall with the Cougars returning starting quarterback Nick Owens and back up Justin McPherson both seniors. APU recently inked San Jose State bounce back, junior, Dasmen Stewart.

“This is one of the best kids I’ve ever been around,” said Karavedas of Elffers. “He’s a class act all the way around.”

Elffers had received offers from UNLV, Idaho, Eastern Washington, and Sacramento State before deciding on Azusa.

“Andrew is thrilled about becoming a Cougar and feels that APU is the right fit for him not just as a football player but as a man,” said Karavedas.
