Covina Unbeaten in League

Covina center Matt Hicks was a force inside with 17 points

(Covina) – Covina ran its league record to 7-0 while running Northview out of the gym in a 66-46 rout of the Vikings Wednesday night in Valle Vista action.

The Colts, already up by nine at the half, racked up 19 points in the third quarter to open up a 17 point lead and then coasted in the fourth. Matt Hicks and Mike Peters combined for 10 of the 19 in the quarter. Hicks did most of his damage inside with four and 17 overall. Peters slashed dashed his way for six in the third and 12 in the second half. The senior point guard led all scorers with 23 points.

Elias Hernandez also finished in double figures with 14 including seven points from the line. Hernandez buried five of six from the stripe in the fourth. Covina led by 15-8 after one including a three ball at the buzzer by Peters to give the Colts the seven point lead.

Northview tried to get back in it the second but couldn’t get a run started. Brandon Gibson had seven in the second quarter including a long three and Danny Johnson had five but the Vikes weren’t able to cut into the Colts advantage.

Johnson led Northview with 18 and Gibson added 12 but after that the production fell off. Luke Farr finished with eight.

Northview fell to 1-5 in league and 7-12 overall. Covina, undefeated in league, improved to 15-5 on the season.
