(Pasadena High School) – Perris Hicks spun off a clutch fourth quarter performance in which he hit ten of 12 free throws with one bucket for 12 of his 15 points as Pasadena (20-5, 12-1) dug deep at the charity stripe down the stretch to prevail over Crescenta Valley 75-68 Tuesday night. With the win Pasadena (19-7, 10-3) wrapped up its ninth consecutive Pacific League championship.
The stakes were indeed high coming into this match as Dena (11-1) arrived at tipoff just one game ahead of CV (10-2) atop the league standings with two to play.
Cole Currie and Nick Springer masterfully brought the Falcons back in striking position late in the game, as Currie (20 points) flooded the bucket in the fourth by hitting four 3-pointers and amassing 15 points in the quarter. Springer piled up a team high 23, including 11 in the fourth. This CV duo combined for 26 of their team’s 31 fourth quarter points. Eric Patten was the one other CV player in double figure scoring with 14.
Leading all scorers was ‘Dena Dogs swingman Dre Spight as he sparked a strong first half and finished with 29 points. Raymond Jackson added 10. Nick Brown and Brandon Jolley both had four. Jeffery McClendon scored seven and took a key charging foul late in the game for PHS.
The Pasadena Bulldogs will host its arch rival John Muir Mustangs this Thursday evening at Pasadena to bookend regular season and league play. Time of tipoff to be determined.
Crescenta Valley returns home for Senior Night against its rivals, the Arcadia Apaches, this Thursday night at 7:00pm.
