Salazar Out at Bell Gardens

Victor Salazar was let go as the head football coach at Bell Gardens after two years.

By Tim Peterson

(Bell Gardens) – Victor Salazar is out as the head football coach at Bell Gardens he confirmed Friday.

Salazar was asked to step down as Bell Gardens said they wanted to go in a different direction. Salazar took over for Margarito Beltran who resigned after the 2019 season.

The Lancers went 4-5 last season (3-2 in the Almont League) and 0-2 in 2020 in Salazar’s first year in the COVID-19 shortened season, for an overall record of 4-7.

“In the year of the COVID pandemic with low numbers we managed to compete and came in second place in the Almont. We missed the playoffs because of a coin flip,” Salazar said. “We had 12 players get nominated for All-League, 9 first team, 2 second team and one of my linemen was voted Lineman of the Year. I don’t know what direction they are going.”

Bell Gardens will begin the search for a new head coach immediately.

BG has never been a football school? You don’t know what you’re talking about if you think that. You obviously have never heard of Coach Newell.

Every high school is a football school or at least wants to be. It sets the tone for the start of the school year. But some schools administrators and school boards do not understand this.

BG has never really been a football school. Just saying. Good luck with finding a new coach. Hopefully, he or she can get that program turned around and kids’ buy-in. I’d love to see them get competitive.

Bg likes to make name hires like a Beltran there are a lot of good football coaches retired wouldn’t be shocked to see one of them get hired at bg. As far as Salazar did a good job but he was never the guy they wanted so didn’t matter what he did

Don’t forget that Bell Gardens went in a different direction and hired an LA City coach after Beltran. Salazar was a late edition and came to the rescue when that coach never showed up. They were lucky to even have a coach in that situation. Way to show some loyalty Bell Gardens to a coach who was getting things going in the right direction.

Why is it, when a HC opening happens. One of the keyboard warriors thinks it perfect for a certain coach. The same name has been brought up for the last 3 job openings.

Wouldn’t be shocked if bg is targeting Matt from bishop Amat. They also try to make a big hire and there’s a lot of big named coaches out there
