(Covina) – Northview ran for 249 yards overall and ran over San Dimas 34-6 Friday night to win the Valle Vista League title at Covina District Field.
Keanu Tauvao lead the rushing attack with 139 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries. Angel Barraza rushed for 99 yards and two scores as the Vikings dominated the line of scrimmage.
Northview’s defense shut out San Dimas until late in the fourth quarter. Saints quarterback Jacob Gonzalez threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Carlos Alvarez to get San Dimas in the scoring column with 3:05 left in the game.
Northview jumped on San Dimas right away and never looked back. The Vikings scored on their first three possessions. Barraza scored on a four-yard touchdown run on the first possession to cap a 65-yard drive.
On the Vikes next series James Arellanes hit Donavan Perez on a 69-yard catch and run down to the San Dimas eight-yard line. Three plays later Arellanes kept it himself for one-yard score.
Perez picked off Gonzalez on the Saints next possession and Northview was in business again. Tavao hit the end zone from two yards out to finish a 77-yard drive and the Vikes were up 21-0 as the clock hit zeroes on the first quarter.
Northview added one more in the second quarter when Barraza crossed the goal line on a 17-yard touchdown jaunt. The Vikings took a 28-0 lead into the break.
In the third quarter Arellanes and Nathan Tome connected for a big play. Tome took a pass and rumbled 45 yards for a touchdown. Northview needed only two plays to go 80 yards as Tauvao broke off a 35-yard run on the first play.
San Dimas finally broke up the shut out late in the fourth.
Arellanes balanced out the Northview offense with 183 yards passing completing 8 of 14 with a touchdown and an interception.
San Dimas never found a groove offensively and turned the ball over twice. Brian Freeland rushed for 134 yards on 20 carries and Gonzalez threw for just 34 yards – 22 of those coming on the touchdown pass.
Northview finished the season 8-2 overall and a perfect 3-0 in the Valle Vista. The Vikings will now wait to see where they land in the playoffs.
San Dimas finished 6-4 and 1-2 in league.
Northview is proving last seasons championships were no flukes. Time to see what they do in D8 or better
