  2. The MLB Division series are set: NLDS: Dodgers vs. Arizona, Atlanta vs Philadelphia; ALDS: Houston vs. Minnesota, Baltimore vs. Texas. Series are best of five. 
  3. Former Chicago Bears linebacker/ Hall of Famer Dick Butkus passed away at the age of 80 the Bears announced Thursday. 
  4. The Bears beat the Washington Commanders 40-20 on Thursday Night Football. 
  5. New York Mets general manager Billy Eppler resigned Thursday. 
  6. Former Northwestern head football coach Pat Fitzgerald is suing the school for wrongful termination. 
  7. The San Francisco 49ers and the Philadelphia Eagles, both 4-0, are the only undefeated teams left in the NFL. 
  8. Dallas Cowboys at San Francisco, Sunday night, 5:20 p.m. NBC. 
  9.  The National Hockey League opens the 2023-’24 season Tuesday October 10.
