Adrian Medrano and the Ranch travel to Schurr Thursday night for a Metro League matchup.

All kickoffs are at 7:00 PM unless otherwise indicated:
Thursday October 15
Hoover (5-2) at Arcadia (5-2)
In previous years this might have been considered a throw away game. The narrative would be Arcadia would win handily and there would be a running clock in the fourth quarter. But things have changed now. Hoover is 5-2 and has won three straight. The Tornados scored 56 points earlier this year in a win over Mt. View and last week racked up 43 on Belmont. They have a solid running back in Dveen Aghanaian who has ran for 1,227 yards and 14 touchdowns. That being said Arcadia is playing well also. They have their last three games had have scored 40 points or more in three of their five wins. Arcadia beat Arroyo two weeks ago before going on a bye. Quarterback Freddy Bysshe and two-way player Aiden Reyes are having big years. Arcadia wins but Hoover will hang in for awhile. Arcadia is the favorite in the Crest League.

Chino (5-2) at San Dimas (5-2)
Both teams need this win in a key Valle Vista League matchup. This isn’t your father’s San Dimas team. The Saints used to run the ball until its legs fell off. If they threw it more than twice in a game it was a big story. Now they do both. Quarterback Kris Saris has thrown for over 700 yards and seven touchdowns and San Dimas has ran for 860 yards as a team – nearly the same. Defenses have to be wary of all options. Chino has the same record as San Dimas at 5-2. The Cowboys can sling it or pound it as well. Quarterback Donavon Chavez has thrown for over 1,000 yards. It could come down to who makes a big play on defense. San Dimas wins close.
San Dimas 27 Chino 24
El Rancho (5-2) at Schurr (2-5)
El Rancho has been playing well. The Dons only two losses have been to an undefeated Los Altos team and a two-loss La Mirada team. They are coming off of a bye and should be well rested. Schurr has had its struggles. The Spartans had a bye last week but gave up 42 points in a loss to La Canada the week before. Schurr may have trouble stopping ER and may not have enough offensively to keep up. El Rancho gets the victory.
El Rancho 31 Schurr 14

Muir (3-4) at Monrovia (4-3)
Muir’s offense was unable to get going last week in a loss to La Canada. The Mustangs have been hit by the injury bug. Quarterback Kaiden Agbunag is out for the year and several key starters are sidelined as well. Monrovia took it on the chin last week in a loss to Burbank. Both teams need this win to avoid falling to 0-2 in the Arroyo League. The Mustangs will continue to run Deveon Blaylock Jr. out of the Wildcat but in this one that will be enough. Muir comes out on top.
Muir 17 Monrovia 7
Viewpoint (7-0) at Rio Hondo Prep (5-2)
Rio Hondo Prep had a bye last week but fell to King’s Academy the week before on a last second play. For the Kares it was their second loss of the year. They throw the ball a little more this year but their bread and butter is still the running game. Matt Montez leads the attack with 787 yards and the Kares have rushed for over1,500 yards overall. Rio Hondo Prep has a tough test this week with unbeaten Viewpoint. Magnus Merriman can run and throw. The quarterback has thrown for 1,388 yards and rushed for 272. The Kares are always at an advantage at home. If they get up early they can control the clock and ultimately the game. Rio Hondo Prep runs to the win.

West Covina (3-4) at Baldwin Park (6-1)
West Covina beat Diamond Bar last week and is 1-1 in the Hacienda League. This is a game the Bulldogs need to stay in the hunt. Baldwin Park is 2-0 in league and have won its two league games convincingly. The Braves’ offense has been clicking with Lequand “Jack Jack” Jackson, Jacory Coleman and company. And to think that Baldwin Park still has several transfers that haven’t been cleared. West Covina will fight and claw but in the end it won’t be enough. The Braves, (yes they’re still the Braves!) have too much.
Baldwin Park 35 West Covina 14
Glendora (5-2) at Charter Oak (7-0)
Glendora has been a surprise this year. The Tartans are 5-2 overall and have won their last three games including a 31-27 win over Northview. Charter Oak has been rolling this season although the Chargers did struggle to beat Colony last week. This is a statement game for both teams. Charter Oak needs it to establish its supremacy while Glendora wants to show how far it has come. It’s also important in the Sierra League. Everybody is looking forward to Charter Oak vs. Bonita but don’t forget about Glendora. The Chargers have enough to win here.
Charter Oak 31 Glendora 21
Downey (4-3) at La Mirada (5-2)
La Mirada is another team that has raised a few eyebrows. The Matadores started 5-1 but were humbled last week by La Serna. Downey is another “La Serna like” team. The Vikings losses came to top teams like Inglewood and Capistrano Valley but have been dominant in Gateway League wins over Warren and Mayfair. Downey just needs to make sure it doesn’t look past La Mirada to La Serna on October 30th. I don’t think the Vikings will. Downey rolls.
Downey 42 La Mirada 14
