All kickoffs are at 7:00 PM unless otherwise indicated:

Thursday October 23

Covina (3-5) at Walnut (4-4)

Both teams need this win to stay alive. Both are 0-3 in the Hacienda League and need to win out to have an outside shot at the playoffs. Covina is coming off a 41-28 loss to Diamond Bar and has allowed 137 points in its last three games. Walnut is in the same boat. The Mustangs gave up 41 last week to South Hills and have given up 106 in their last three. The scoreboard operator is going to be busy. Covina wins a shootout.

San Dimas (4-4, 3-5 on field) at Baldwin Park (4-4)

San Dimas got blasted last week but that tends to happen when the opponent is Northview. Baldwin Park has lost four straight and needs a win to get back on track. The Saints will try to establish a running game while the Braves may air it out. San Dimas scores late and chews up the clock to hold off Baldwin Park. Saints get the win…close.

Friday October 24

San Marino (3-5) at Monrovia (5-3)

It been a tough go for Monrovia since quarterback Jesse Saucedo went down three weeks ago. The Wildcats have lost three straight and were shutout last week by La Canada. San Marino is 1-1 in the Rio Hondo after an eight-point loss last week to South Pasadena. Both teams need a victory. Monrovia bounces back to get it done.

Charter Oak (7-0) at Colony (3-5)

While Charter Oak has been rolling it’s been a struggle for Colony. The Titans are 3-5 overall but did get a big win last week over Glendora. Charter Oak’s big game is next week against Bonita. Don’t expect them to stumble here. The Chargers will take care of business.

Alta Loma (6-2) at Northview (7-1) (Covina District Field)

The narrative is some circles this year was that Alta Loma is a good team. And that’s true. It was also said that Northview is down this year. That’s not true. The Vikings beat La Serna in non-league and have racked up 126 points in their last three Valle Vista League games. Alta Loma has won its last two games and may hang around for awhile but Northview pulls away for the win. The Vikes are a lot to deal with.

Damien (7-1) at Chino Hills (6-2)

This is another tough Baseline League game for Damien. Chino Hills is 3-0 in league so far and the Huskies are coming off of a 33-19 win over Etiwanda. The Spartans only loss was by two points to a solid Rancho Cucamonga team. Last week Damien beat Upland by three scores. This one should come down to the wire. The Spartans win it in the fourth quarter.

South El Monte (6-3) at El Monte (6-2)

Some of the luster was taken off this game when South El Monte lost to Gabrielino three weeks ago. But the Eagles are still 4-1 in the Mission Valley League and a win over El Monte would put them into a first place tie with the Lions who are currently 4-0 in league. El Monte has won four straight after losing a non-league game to Cal back on September 12. The Lions have several weapons in Quarterback Alex Aleman and skill position players in Isaiah Standley and Alonso Hernandez Jr. This looks like the Lions year in the MVL. El Monte wins the “Griffin Bowl”.

Los Altos (8-0) at Diamond Bar (3-5)

Los Altos is 8-0 and looking to run the table. Diamond Bar lost its first five games but has since bounced back to win its last three- all Hacienda League games. This one is for the league title. Dominic Tortorelli s having a big year for Diamond Bar and ran for over 200 yards and four touchdowns last week. Diego Castillo has been behind center leading the Los Altos offense which has been clicking as well. Both teams can score. It may come down to how has the ball last. Los Altos remains unbeaten.

It was even sadder when they hired an ex st paul D coordinator ?? maybe 15 or so years ago. I think Warren went like
0 and 29 with 1 tie during this mans tenure

The Downey-Warren game, usually a really big deal in the area, has been reduced to an event with little to no drama. Sure, the kids will be there screaming their lungs out, but for football fans, it’s like a funeral.

El Rancho has a strange non-league game towards the end of the season against unknown El Segundo who is playing like a Division 5-6 team. At a 5-3 record and a big game vs. Santa Fe looming, the focus for the Dons should be to just stay sharp, compete, stay healthy, and get ready for the big one week 10.
