(Pasadena) – Pasadena fell behind 10-0 early but took the lead in the second quarter and never relinquished it in a 54-48 win over Arcadia Friday night in front of a capacity crowd at the Dog House.

Arcadia scored the first ten points of the game before Pasadena responded. But when the Bulldogs did respond it came with a vengeance as they scored the next nine points in the first quarter. Timmy Anderson hit a three pointer and scored six of the nine as Pasadena pulled to within one.

In the second quarter Pasadena put the clamps on Arcadia outscoring the Apaches 13-1. Anderson hit another three and also threw down a slam on a break-away that sent the Dog House into a frenzy. Derek Jordan also scored six points in the quarter and by the time the second quarter dust had settled the Bulldogs were up 22-11. The Apaches managed only one point since jumping out to the 10-0 lead and had been outscored 22-1.

The Apaches got back on track in the third quarter. Or more to the point Ajani Balogun got on track. He scored ten points in the quarter doing some dirty work inside battling Pasadena’s seven-foot big man Josh Irving. Owen Edwards had seven in the quarter as Arcadia tried to cut into the lead.

Irving, who had been scoreless until the third quarter, scored four for Pasadena and Anderson hit a couple more buckets as the Bulldogs still led by eight at the end of three.

Arcadia had its best offensive quarter in the fourth with 20 and at one point the Apaches cut the lead to 48-46 but the Bulldogs were able to hang on for the win.

Edwards, doing the bulk of his work inside, led the Arcadia attack with 19 points including 14 in the second half. Balugon had 14, Mateo Ingersoll had eight and Nick Wallace Jr. added five.

For Pasadena Anderson led all scorers with 23. Anderson also reached a milestone in the contest as he hit 3,000 points in his high school career with jump shot in the fourth quarter. He was presented with a certificate in a quick ceremony following the game. Jordan scored 15 and Irving finished with eight.

The win was big for the Bulldogs as it pulled them into a first-place tie with Arcadia in the Pacific League. Both teams are now 9-1 with four games remaining. Pasadena is 15-8 overall while Arcadia sits at 19-5.

Next up for Arcadia is a home game with Burroughs Tuesday night while Pasadena will face Glendale.
