By Tim Peterson
(Pomona) – Daniel Falkenstein has been named the new head football coach at Diamond Ranch he confirmed Wednesday.
Falkenstein has had previous stops at Pacifica and Downey as an assistant and has spent the last six years at Orange Coast College.
Falkenstein takes over for Chris Williams who stepped down in February to take the head coach job at Covina.
The Panthers finished 3-7 last year (2-8 on the field) and missed the playoffs.
“I’m honored and excited for the opportunity at Diamond Ranch High School. The admin has been great through the hiring process. I’m hitting the ground running as time is of the essence,” Falkenstein said.
Clearly puzzled does not know any good public HC’s. They are leaders and listeners not masters. Good assistants are not slaves but partners.
Being a passenger in a car is different than being the driver of a car. Watching someone raise children is different than actually raising them. Being an employee of a company is different than running that company. Reading a comment on this site is different than writing one. Being an assistant coach is clearly different than being a head coach, because in that role, you have to implement the wishes of your master, the HC. All I’m asking for in these introductory pieces is to know if a given hire has experience in FOLLOWING or LEADING. Why is that so hard to understand?
@puzzled
How is anyone supposed to get experience if all these schools should only hire coaches with previous head coaching experience?
When last we visited the topic of guys with no head coaching experience, Tim seemed to be enthusiastic about these type of hires. Why then is this not mentioned in the above introduction? Is the lack of HC experience a negative or a positive, or does it depend on which side of the bed our host got out of this morning?
Whatever Peterson’s sleeping habits, we can all rest assured that DR will continue its slow descent into subpar territory. The school suffers from the same defect as Pioneer: it is a stand-alone high school with no feeder programs, only stray superstar wannabes who more often than not won’t be.
From T. Peterson: It is mentioned in the story. He has had over 10 years of coaching experience including six in junior college. That’s coaching experience! Why would I write that a coach has no head coaching experience? Every single coach in the history of football at any level had no head coaching experience. Why is that so hard to understand?
