(Hacienda Heights) – La Serna won the Conqueror Classic Saturday at Los Altos. The Lancers, led by quarterback Grady Long, knocked off some tough teams along the way including Chino Hills in the quarterfinals.

La Serna’s only chance at a deep playoff run is getting into Div. 6 or lower. They can get there by placing 2nd or 3rd in the league, which is achievable for them based on their schedule so far (looks like there are 2 games that still need to be scheduled on maxpreps). I don’t see them beating Corona Del Mar, Salesian or Downey, and possibly Mayfair. 6 wins should get them in.
La Serna is going to need all the good news it can get, because Downey is waiting to show these guys how it’s done. The playoff elimination at the hands of RHP was a preview of what Andy George’s crew might do when faced with real competition.
