South El Monte has its eyes on the Mission Valley League crown. The Eagles will have to get by Arroyo first. The Knights are the defending league champs and until someone proves they can knock them off they are the team to beat. El Monte and Rosemead should battle for that third spot. The Panthers are coming off a very un-Rosemead like year going 2-8 in 2023. Mt. View and Gabrielino, barring any major upsets, will bring up the rear.

Sierra League at a Glance

Noah Mikhail (Texas A&M commit) is ready for a huge year at Bonita.

With Charter Oak on the rise, Bonita and Colony always contending and Glendora preparing to knock any one of them off the Sierra is arguably the toughest league in the Valley. Throw in Los Osos and Claremont, two teams that could jump up and bite somebody, and every week is going to be a dogfight.

Maranatha Madness

I’m hearing good things out of Pasadena- specifically from the campus of Maranatha High School. The Minutemen finished 9-2 overall last year and won the Cottonwood League with a perfect record of 5-0. The Minutemen season ended with a 25-7 loss to Cantwell in the first round of the CIF Division 11 playoffs. This year the Minutemen have moved to the Mesquite League with the Christian schools – Western, Linfield, Whitter and Arrowhead along with Big Bear.

St. Paul Girls 2024 Flag Football Schedule

Last year Girls Flag Football began to scratch the surface. This year with so many other schools jumping on board we expect it to blow up. We covered several games last season and we are preparing to pump up the coverage this year as more local teams start participating. We expect to post many more schedules as the season approaches. Here is St. Paul’s schedule.

With the re-leaguing that took place for 2024 it was time for us to make some adjustments. This year there are 19 different leagues in our coverage area. That doesn’t mean we will cover every team in all 19 leagues but that there are teams that we cover in each league. For instance in the newly formed Mesquite League there are six teams that make up the league but only two that are in our area – Maranatha and Whittier Christian. However in leagues such as the Mission Valley, Rio Hondo and the Almont we cover all six teams in each league. When we say “coverage area” it means game stories for these teams, Top Ten eligibility and they will be mentioned in our weekly “Game Night” and “Scoreboard” Features. The season kicks off Thursday August 22.
