On The Couch: May 20, 2009

What a fine morning!I know I am late to the party on most of what I have to say, but after a few days in Las Vegas and doing a extra hour on the www.midvalleysports.com it is time to speak.

I am thinking the over/under of Mike Tirico or Ron Jaworski making a Chucky reference on the first Monday Night Football game on ESPN is two minutes.

Now that John Gruden is in the booth it may actually be more informative to watch a game with Jaws and Gruden adding some analysis on the game.

I stated in this column a couple of weeks ago that Jess Jackson was going to ruin Rachel Alexandra in running her in the Preakness Stakes.

I am still not on board with running a filly against the boys on the dirt.  But if you watched the race it was hard not to get chills watching her pull away.

Poor Mind That Bird he was one horse away from running for the Triple Crown.  If it was another 1/8 of mile he would have caught the filly.

Nothing makes me laugh more than watching gamblers argue about sports and there reasoning behind certain bets.

One guy was stating that he never bet basketball because it was fixed.  Another bet against the Yankees because they are always 40 to 50 dollars over what they should be.

But the best story of the weekend came when the sports book was playing the 1975 World Series Game 6 with Boston and Cincinnati.  A guy in his fifties was able to sucker a kid who was about 23 to bet that the game would end on a walk-off home run.

Andy’s Rants returns next Monday at www.midvalleynewsonline.com.

On The Couch will run Tuesday – Sunday at www.midvalleysports.com.
