High School Football Top 20: Mid-Valley Division

From L-R: Ellis McCarthy, John Adams and Ryan Teegarden of top ranked Monrovia

Things remained status quo at the top of the pack. The top eight teams all won and the ninth – Maranatha- lost to number 2-Whittier Christian. I’m convinced that Monrovia and Azusa won’t lose the rest of the regular season. Whittier Christian and Covina however still have a couple of hurdles to clear.

Covina and Baldwin Park square off this week. Arroyo has a fate of the world game Friday night against Rosemead.

1. Monrovia (4-2): It was men against boys in rout of Blair.

2. Whittier Christian (6-1): Sights now set on Olympic League title.

3. Azusa (6-0): When do the playoffs start?

4. Covina (6-1): Colts take care of business against Nogales.

5. Baldwin Park (2-4): Thursday night showdown at Covina.

6. Arroyo (5-1): Knights dismiss South; ready for Rosemead.

7. San Dimas (4-3): Saints need to win out for guaranteed playoff berth.

8. Schurr (3-3): It wasn’t easy but beating BG never is.

9. Maranatha (5-2): Minutemen gave Heralds all they wanted.

10. Alhambra (4-2): Moors get Spartans at home this week.

11. Bell Gardens (3-3): Lancers led late in fourth until Schurr rallied.

12. Valley Christian (4-3): Crusaders rout the Baptists; Maranatha next.

13. Rosemead (4-2): Koffler’s special teams and defense too much for Gabby.

14. La Canada (3-3): Spartans win Rio Hondo opener. Gear up for TC.

15. Village Christian (4-2): Open Olympic play this week at LA Baptist.

16. La Puente (4-2): Warriors rip G-Stone; Second best team in Montview.

17. South Pasadena (3-3): Tigers will even Rio Hondo record this week vs. Blair.

18. Sierra Vista (5-1): Dons only loss is to Azusa.

19. El Monte (2-4): Michael Jimenez and Lions hold off View.

20. Montebello (2-4): Fernando Hoffens leads Oilers to second straight win.

Number of teams represented in each league: Valle Vista 3, Rio Hondo 3, Olympic 4, MVL 3, Montview 3, Almont 4

Notes: San Gabriel was replaced by Montebello and Mountain View by El Monte after they lost to them in their league openers. Wilson dropped out of the Top 20 after a painful loss to Northview and Sierra Vista (5-1) jumped back in after routing G-Stone.
