(South El Monte)-Montebello’s Marcus Portillos’ 113-yards on the ground leads Oilers to a 13-8 win over South El MonteFriday night at “The Swamp”.

Both teams came out with tough defenses in the first half shutting each other out. The Eagles defense was led by Pablo Ocegueda and Javier Machuca who each had an interception.

Oilers came into the second half with a pooch kick and recovered it off a Southman’s helmet. The short field led to a 4-yard touchdown run from Portillo to give Montebello a 7-0 early in the third quarter.

Late in the quarter Machuca, the third string quarterback, broke through the Oilers defense and flew 72-yards to paydirt. Machuca also converted the two point attempt to make it 8-7.

Oilers quarterback Matthew Sanez led a long drive downfield completing 7 of 8 passes and pounding it in from 1-yard out to give Montebello a 13-8 lead after a failed two point attempt.

Machuca tried to bring the Eagles back but penalties forced a fourth and thirty two, and the Southmen were unable to convert.

Sanez finished 9 of 18 for 95-yards 2-interpections, only eight yards on the ground but had the winning score. Gilbert Herrera had five catches for 52-yards for the Oilers.
