Week 8 Round Ups: Mid-Valley Division

ALMONT

Alhambra 24, Schurr 21

The Moors (4-4, 2-1) moved into a tie for second in the Almont League as they handed the Spartans (2-6, 1-2) a second straight league loss Friday night at Alhambra High’s Moor Field.

Jessie Campos broke a 21-21 tie with 41 seconds left in teh game when he hit a 37-yard field goal to put the Moors up for good. Earlier, Schurr erased a 21-13 deficit on quarterback Eric Fonseca’s five-yard run. Armando  Amaya was perfect in his passes, hitting all 12 of his attempts for 132 yards for the Moors.

Ezra Broadus  intercepted a pass by Fonseca with time running out, sealing the win for the Moors.

RIO HONDO

South Pasadena 35,  La Canada 8

Nathan Lee and Rudy Murillo combined for four touchdowns as the Tigers (5-3, 1-2) got their first Rio Hondo League win of the season by runing Homecoming for the Spartans, (1-7, 0-3) who dropped their seventh straight loss of the season Friday night at La Canada High.

The Tigers scored three times in the second half on three straight possessions, increasing their 14-8 halftime lead. Brian Bednarski scored on a nine-yard run, while Murillo scored his two touchdowns in the half, a 12-yard score and a 92-yard breakaway with 8:38 left in the game to seal the victory.
VALLE VISTA
San Dimas 44, Covina 7

The Saints (7-1, 4-0) returned to action after their bye week by staying oerfect in Valle Vista League play, stopping the Colts’ ( 6-3, 3-2) three-game win streak Friday night at the San Dimas Sportsplex.

The Saints scored 57 seconds into the game on a 44-yard pass from Josh Avila to Andrew Espinoza. Espinoza would score again on the Saints’ second possession, a four-yard run. The Saints would lead 30-0 at halftime. Frankie Ramirez scored the Colts’ lone touchdown in the third quarter, from about 10 yards out with less than five minutes remaining in the quarter.
