The Lancers (7-1, 3-0) stayed tied for first in the Del Rio League as they handed the Dons (3-5, 0-3) their fourth straight loss and eliminated them from playoff contention Friday night at El Rancho’s Ernie Johnson Field.
The Lancers got three touchdowns from Gio Long, as well as two touchdown passes from quarterback Frankie Palmer in the win. El Rancho’s Joey Sanchez and Johnny Garcia kept the Dons in the game as they combined for five touchdowns, including Sanchez’ two scoring throws to Garcia and Javier Carrillo
HACIENDA
Diamond Bar 41, Walnut 35 (2OT)
The Brahmas (3-5, 2-2) kept their playoff hopes alive as they moved into a three-way tie for third place in the Hacienda League with a win in double overtime against the Mustangs (1-7, 0-4) to claim the Branding Iron Trophy Friday night at the Bullring at Diamond Bar High.
The Brahmas overcame a 21-14 halftime deficit to force the overtime and Tyler Brown, who led the Brahmas with 234 yards on 25 carries, scored the game winner in the second overtime with a 20-yard run.Quarterback Tyler Peterson threw for 135 yards on 12 passes, throwing three touchdowns but also surrendering two interceptions in the win.
SAN GABRIEL VALLEY
Compton Dominguez 31, Gahr 3
The Dons (4-4, 3-0) exploded for three touchdowns in the second half to maintain a first-place tie in the San Gabriel Valley League as they handed the Gladiators (3-5, 0-3) a fourth straight loss and eliminated them from playoff contention Friday night at Gahr High’s Gladiator Stadium.
Quarterback Jajuan Tate hit Samuel Shirley with a 50-yard score to put the Dons up 17-3 in the third. Eric Black furthered the lead on the Dons’ next possession, capping a nine-play, 48-yard drive with a three-yard run for a score.
Lynwood 35, Warren 19
The Knights (3-5, 1-2) ended a two=game skid as they inaugurated the school’s new on-campus football stadium with a dominating win over the Bears (0-8, 0-3) Friday Night at Lynwood High.
Sophomore quarterback Darryl Robinson started his first game for the Knights and made the most of it, hitting Thaddeus Daniels for three touchdowns in the first half as part of his eight completions for 90 yards. Justin McGowen rushed for 133 yards on 14 carries and Rodney Wilkerson added 69 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries in the win.
Paramount 21, Downey 17
A seven-yard touchdown throw by Lamont Odom to Tyrell Davis with seven seconds left in regulation lifted the Pirates (7-1, 3-0) to a win over the Vikings (5-3, 2-1), maintaining their tie for first place in the San Gabriel Valley League Friday night at Paramount High’s Pirates Lair.
The Pirates had trailed 17-14 when they got the ball with five monutes left in the game, then drove 75 yards for the winning score. Running back Alex Tunrer led the Pirate ground game with 125 yards on 14 carries, while teammate Deonte Dixon reched the 1,000-yard rushing mark with his 70 yards rushing in the game. Downey’s leading rusher, Justin Huff, was held to his lowest output of the season, only 64 yards on 12 carries.
SUBURBAN
Artesia 35, Bellflower 27
The Pioneers (2-6, 1-3) ended a six-game losing streak as they sunk the Buccaneers (4-4, 2-2) into a tie for third place in the Suburban League Friday night at Bellflower High’s Ron Yary Stadium.
Christian Rodriguez scored with 3:28 left in the game to put the Pioneers up 28-27, erasing a 27-10 Bellflower lead. Rodriguez had 124 yards on 11 carries and two touchdowns. Bellflower lost their leading rusher Ryan Hunley late in the game but not before he rushed for 244 yards and two touchdown on 28 carries.
The Buccaneers close out their regular season with their annual “Battle for Ron Yary Stadium” against Mayfair while Artesia ends it’s regular season with it’s annual tilt agains Glenn on November 2.
