Burroughs in Control in Pacific

(Arcadia) – Burroughs jumped out to a 27-0 halftime lead and rolled to a 41-7 win over Arcadia Thursday night at Arcadia. With the win the Bears remained unbeaten in the Pacific as they continue their quest for a league title.

On the first opening kickoff Burroughs recovered an onside kick at the Arcadia 49-yard line. Seven plays later Chris Kulikov hit Ethan Hubbell on a 39-yard touchdown pass.

Late in the first quarter Noah Frenkel took a handoff and went right up the gut, busted a tackle and raced 80 yards for a touchdown to make it 14-0.

Early in the second quarter the Bears needed only five plays to go 55 yards. Santiago Sanchez bulled his way through the line of scrimmage and went the last 23 yards for the score. The extra point was missed.

Jake Scozzola got behind the Arcadia secondary and hauled in a 45-yard strike from Kulikov that he caught in stride and sprinted across the goal line with 2:38 left in the second quarter. Matteo Tarca’s extra point made it 27-0. The Bears took that lead into the half.

Burroughs picked up right where it left off to open the third quarter driving 56 yards on six plays with Scozzola picking up his second score of the night on a five-yard pass from Kulikov.

Kulikov scored on a 12-yard run later in the quarter to make it 41-0.

Arcadia finally got on the board late in the third quarter after a long kickoff return set up a five-yard touchdown run by Keyonn Chatman.

Chatman was the Apaches leading rusher with 114 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries. Quarterback Keyon Mills ran for 49 yards and threw for 84.

For the victorious Bears Scozzola had seven receptions for 97 yards and two touchdowns. Kulikov threw for 232 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 31 and a score. Frenkel had only six carries but ran for 95 yards and a touchdown.

Burroughs is now 7-1 overall and in control in the Pacific League at 3-0 with Crescenta Valley and Burbank remaining on the schedule.

Arcadia fell to 5-3 and 2-1.

    I haven’t heard much about Burroughs since they were the Indians. Good for them.
