(Baldwin Park) – Jesse Ceniceros has stepped down as the head football coach at Sierra Vista after two years he confirmed Wednesday.
Ceniceros cited personal reasons as the deciding factor in his resignation.
The Dons went 9-12 under Ceniceros in his two years at the helm and 0-1 in the post season. In 2022 Sierra Vista was 7-4 overall and 2-1 in the Mt. Baldy League. The Dons lost in the first round of the CIF Division 12 playoffs to Lancaster 28-16. Last season they finished 2-8 and missed the playoffs.
“I’m not done coaching. I’m sure I’ll coach somewhere else at some point. But right now I just need to hit the reset button,” Ceniceros said.
Sierra Vista will begin the search for a new head coach immediately.
D13 and 14 ……moderate success …..SGV inflation of results
Jesse has accomplished a lot more at both Norwalk and El Monte even if I detest double wing offense
I was gonna offer Anonymous Santa Fe +27 vs La Serna for a pastrami at The Hat

@Bottom Line A not very good LS will be good enough to be ahead of most league teams by 30 points at half
Anonymous El Monte has Spathias and staff that has been together very long competing against D12, 13 and 14 competition successfully. So EM most likely , even if Ceniceros applied, would have no interest.
Would like to see boxing and MMA in high schools. Are there any?

May 1, 2024 – 9:14 pm but each high school chooses the new coaches! No get me wrong please, I have seen WHS not caring at all for winning. In other sports too. They had a very very successful head coach and his assistant (Mata and Saldana) , yet numbskull Anzalde (AP activities at the time) fired them in order to hire a credentialed teacher on campus. Yes, yes i know having head coaches who teach at the school is usually good. But Mata and assistant, i believe, earned playoffs like 7-8 years
Let’s call it what it is.
Sierra Vista is a terrible job. 6 Head Coaches in 9 Years.
Jesse is jumping ship like he’s done everywhere else.
We know he’s going back to a weak league like mission valley wouldn’t be surprised he’s arroyo next head coach next season
$? you suggest Ceniceros still, after all these years (some successful; some not as successful … statistically) he still gets ‘ego boosts’? I suggest the man just loves ‘this great game’ and likes directing the strategy, the players, the hard work, etc. If he is the man who head coached Norwalk, around 2006, 07, and 08 ish, he did very good job increasing number of wins. The Penny Brothers were there then. Also i think, not know it all, that when losing a lot, having seasons when the team does not reach potential/ underachieve, it may be opposite effect on ego
bottom line. Yes agree that if he applied for the Whittier job and did not get it, could it be because there was not a teaching position that he is credentialed for/ ? I do not know. So they got a head coach who coached , statistically without success, at Ocean View in Huntington beach i believe. Right now Whittier can hire Gruden and still not compete with LS for another few years. Whittier H. S. has shown very little concern (i am not claiming 100% correctness, but have observed this situation in two or three major sports) with enough of possible hopeful outcomes to look and hire the best possible
Crazy! Yeah he definitely seems like that kinda guy. Thinks he’s Bud Kilmer. Doesn’t get what he wants so he splits.
Really seems like when the talent leaves so does he…
Seemed like Jose was going to open the playbook do some shotgun would have been interesting
Coach Jose did a good job maybe not the results we all wanted but one of his assistant coaches passed this offseason makes sense that he wants to hit the reset
@ $ very well said……..
@Bottom Line
Bateman is an alumn of Santa Fe and was a great player for them so it makes sense that they hired him. The proof was provided last season. Get off your conspiracy bs. La Serna won’t even be that good this year they graduated almost all their star players.
You want to give someone the benefit of the doubt regarding their reasoning for stepping down, especially when grief is related to it, but his previous experiences have shown he doesn’t stick around at one place for very long with the exception of Norwalk. I would predict he’ll be coaching somewhere this fall.
Sierra Vista 2 years
El Monte 3 years
Chino 2 years- He used the “time to hit the reset button” quote that time too
Norwalk 7 years- Longest time at one place
Barstow 2 years
Matt v is everything that is wrong with high school football these days
Surely you jest
Agree 100 % . Throw in whatever happened with the Whittier job in March , and the reality of Sierra Vista now in a more difficult league alignment , clearly a dark cloud was felt above. I’m certain Coach is loyal and devoted to the staff who have helped him be successful, and the recent passings have hit hard.
Totally understandable.
Sierra vista made a mistake when they fired Matty V. Jose has bigger resume but Marty V produced results and had the community engaged it was rolling in sierra vista
The man lost his cousin that helped on his coaching staff, and not even a month later his longtime friend his DC Tony Gallegos. Any HC that goes through 2 personal losses, needs to take sometime to reset. I didn’t know them personally but that’s hard to go through. Wishing him nothing but the best, he’s not done. Take all the time you need coach.
Is there a good football program out there that wants him? I know low end programs like El Monte, Sierra Vista, etc, etc would take him. He wants a reset because SV blows. Where does he end up?
We would do well to remember the insanity of Whittier not hiring this man, when everybody and his uncle could see the logic of such a move. The Whittier district is intent on keeping La Serna in the stratosphere, at the price of keeping its other schools in the dumps. You may ask what about the Bateman hire at Santa Fe. The answer is that Ryan was thought to be the worst candidate imaginable, a guy who would continue the Chiefs’ slide through the muck.
1 of 2 things happened here.
1. The reset will take place in 1 week at Ontario
2. Like Whittier, He didn’t get the Ontario job and really hates coaching at Sierra Vista so he needs a break.
However it is, he really has drug Sierra Vista along which by all accounts is a school that has treated him very well.
The ego boost from being a high school HC is not worth the time away from more important things. Some day they will figure out how to compensate these guys in Cal.
