(Monrovia) – Julian Vigil rushed for 240 yards and two touchdowns to lead San Dimas to a 42-14 rout of Monrovia Friday night at Monrovia High.
Vigil did all of the damage on just 13 carries as he busted out runs of 53, 50 and 30 yards. And showing his versatility he also intercepted a pass in the endzone just before halftime to thwart a Monrovia drive.
Monrovia actually got on the board first on just two plays. After a short punt left the Wildcats at the San Dimas 36 Jesse Saucedo hit DJ Young for 22 yards down to the 14. On the next play Saucedo found Young again for a 14-yard touchdown and a 7-0 lead.
San Dimas answered with an 80-yard drive as Tristan Fierro finished it with a five-yard run. San Dimas then forced a fumble by Saucedo and took over at the Monrovia 35. On the first play Brandon Meredith connected with a wide-open Nathaniel Almaraz for a 35-Yard touchdown to give the Saints a lead they never relinquished.
After a Monrovia punt the Saints put together another march. This time they went 83 yards on five plays. Vigil broke loose for a 50 -yard run down to the Monrovia 33. Meredith threw his second score of the night finding Jacob Gallegos for six yards and a 21-7 lead in the first quarter.
Monrovia’s Josh Griffiths punched it into the end zone from two yards out in the second quarter to cap a 55-yard march but that was the last time the Wildcats scored.
They did threaten just before the half but Vigil picked off Saucedo in the end zone with less than a minute left. San Dimas led 21-14 at the break.
In the second half it was all Vigil and the Saints defense. They forced Monrovia to punt four times in the second half and Gallegos had an intercepton.
Vigil had a 53-yard touchdown scamper in the third quarter and a 24-yard TD jaunt in the fourth. In between Fierro got his second of the night on a four-yard run.

Fierro had 88 yards on 18 carries and two scores and San Dimas had 379 total rushing yards on the night. Meredith made the Monrovia defense think about the passing game with 114 yards and two scores through the air.
With six extra points in the game San Dimas kicker Brady Arriaga has now connected on 28 straight PATs.
For Monrovia Saucedo completed 13 of 26 for 128 yards and a score. But he was hurt by a fumble and an interception. Young had three catches for 56 yards and a touchdown.
San Dimas is now 4-1 and will start Valle Vista League play next Thursday night against West Covina. Monrovia, also 4-1, will open the Rio Hondo League next Friday night at home against San Marino.
Monrovia coaching staff is a joke. The defense made no adjustments linebackers might be the worse in 30yrs at Monrovia. Head coach is the ad,offensive coordinator were are the alumni coaches walls, craft. Those two coaches taught them life lessons beyond football. Plus they are great coaches who really care about the program. Community please stand up the kids deserve better
Seen from Afar,
Saw it coming from many miles away…
Can someone confirm that indeed the MHS Principal will be serving a one game suspension for arguing with a ref? If so, Monrovia (commentor), this is beyond embarrassing.
Monrovia was a embarrassing show Friday. Head coach is AD,Head coach,, offensive coordinator the plate is to full for a below average coach. I’m very embarrassed as a alumni of monrovia this coaching staff is horrible…. school board please please please make a change.
Prior to the game , Monrovia had a slighter better number . The lopsided result gives SD a better number now ; my point is regarding coaching in closely matched games . It is a good nonleague matchup of teams with very different styles.
Correction: San Dimas was ranked higher in Calpreps, or else you would see in Calpreps the loss for Monrovia in red and the win for SD in blue. However, I hope we continue this rivalry because it’s sure fun. Last Four games visiting teams have won. Meaning both teams are 2-0 in away games, I think that’s interesting.
It seems that the fears of Concerned Monrovian have come to the fore . A lopsided loss with astonishing running yards and points for the opponent ( which had lower CalPreps rating entering game.). Recall South Pas and Troy last year and now San Dimas .
I’ve only seen Monrovia once in last season and half since new crew came on board , but the issues of alignment, gap assignment and necessary adjustments do seem valid to me . They’ll have a good year , likely face off vs La Canada for league title and then disappoint in first round of playoffs .
I thought they had best talent in league last year – Great QB WR duo- and managed 3way tie . Let’s see how this year plays out
