The Las Vegas Raiders made it official today, firing Pete Carroll for his inability to work miracles with no support from ownership. I can’t see why he wanted to sour his reputation by going to this team in the first place; he obviously knew change would be impossible, as proven by his insistence on having managerial control when he did the Seattle gig.

What’s next for Carroll? I suppose if he waits five years or so, he’d be old enough to run for President. But that move would be even worse than the Raiders thing, because in government you’ve got a whole bunch of guys like Mark Davis pushing and pulling on you. All said, I thank this man for what he did at USC. I don’t even want to hear about the Bush episode, because we all know that everybody was shoveling money under the table back then, same as they’re shoveling it above the table now.
