(Azusa) – Azusa Pacific outscored Biola 50-42 in the second half and then held off the Eagles 85-78 Thursday night at Felix Event Center.
The Cougars were down 36-35 at halftime. The game was tied six different times in the first half. Tyus Parrish -Tillman led Biola with 12 points. DJ Sanders had nine for Azusa Pacific and Caleb Oden added six.
In the second half Oden hit a three and Shad Thomas threw down a dunk for a quick 5-0 run to put the Cougars up by six at 48-42 with just under 16 minutes left.
Sanders then broke free for a driving layup to make it 54-46 APU with 13:21 left to force a Biola timeout.

Later in the half Kaleb Taylor scored off of an offensive rebound and was fouled for a three-point play to make it 59-55. Tobias Aisien hit a three to put the Cougars up 63-58 with 7:30 remaining.
The Eagles cut it to 71-69 as Parrish-Tillman continued to have the hot hand for Biola but APU responded with a Thomas jam and a driving lay-up by Sanders to increase the advantage to 76-69 with 3:09 left.
Taylor threw down another slam with 1:24 left to make it 78-71 to ice it for the Cougs. EJ Bryson and Sanders both nailed free throws with under a minute left to secure the victory.
For Azusa Pacific Sanders led the way with 20 points and Oden followed up with 16. Bryson had 12, Thomas 11 and Aisien scored 10. The Cougars outrebounded Biola 34-32.

For Biola Parrish-Tillman scored a game high 27. Charlie Gehler had 14 Cameron Brown 13 and Chris Harris and Walker Weir each added 10.
With Azusa Pacific moving to Division 3 next year this is the last game at Felix Event Center with longtime rival Biola. The Cougars will face the Eagles one more time at Biola on February 28th.
The Cougars improved to 5-6 overall and 3-3 in the PacWest Conference. Biola fell to 6-6 and 2-4.
