Week two is in the books and it seemed like a week of good and bad. For Arroyo the good news is a thrilling comeback win over Montebello, the bad news of course is stud quarterback Steven Rivera is out at least one game. There was some good and bad news in the Monrovia, Arcadia game. First the good, Monrovia validated itself as the cream of the crop. The bad news? It’s clear the Apaches have talent at the skill positions but need to work on the interior.Alhambra faced Temple City at home and head coach Lou Torres got his first win for the Moors. The Rams found they can compete but learned they need to get disciplined in regards to penalties. A clipping penalty negated a would be touchdown that could have won  the game. With that lets survey the landscape of the Mid Valley.

.) Monrovia (1-1): Proved the loss to Glendora was only a blip on what is sure to be a special season for the Wildcats.

.) Arroyo (3-0): Despite the win they drop a rank this week. The Knights were the best team on the field and it took a whole game to scrape up enough scoring to prove it.

.) Rosemead (1-1): One spot behind Arroyo based on the common opponent in Montebello. Fun fact, the Panthers and Knights each beat the Oilers by four points. At San Marino figures to be a fun one.

.) Arcadia (0-2): I’m not ready to write off the Apaches after a road loss to a talented team opening a new stadium.

.) South El Monte (1-1): South jumps up five spots this week after the win, mostly because everyone under them played poorly.

.) Mountain View (1-1): Ouch, officiating anyone? It’s hard to say View didn’t deserve that game but a loss is a loss.

.) Gabrielino (2-1): What better way to bounce back than to have Keppel on your schedule?

.) San Gabriel (0-3): Another game and another loss for the Matadors. SG received a spark from backup QB Andy Guerrero, leading his team back from a 23 point deficit falling a score short.

.) Alhambra (1-2): The Moors got in the win column, it wasn’t pretty but I’m sure they’ll take it.

.) El Monte (0-2): Failed to score twice at the goal line, four interceptions didn’t do them any favors either.

.) Temple City (0-2): The Rams played with Alhambra to the whistle. It’s clear they need to tighten some things up on offense to stop the wheels from completely falling off.

.) Duarte (0-2): Two games zero points. Two columns written by yours truly…zero chance of leaving the cellar.
