Thursday September 10

La Serna (3-0) at Northview (1-2) (Covina District Field)

Northview has played a brutal schedule this season. It doesn’t get any easier this week with La Serna coming to town. The Vikings won the opener at Thousand Oaks but have fallen short the last two weeks against La Habra and Torrance. La Serna is on a roll. The Lancers have scored more than 50 points in all three of their games. Last week they beat Salesian in a shootout 52-33. Northview has a good defensive front but can the Vikes make enough stops to hold off La Serna? Lancers’ offense right now looks unstoppable. La Serna remains unbeaten.

San Marino (3-0) at Maranatha (1-2)

San Marino is off to a great start under first year head coach DJ Jones. The Titans are 3-0 and the offense is clicking. Maranatha beat Covina after a season opening loss but were humbled by Western Christian last week 49-6. San Marino looks like it will be 5-0 heading into a showdown with Crescenta Valley on October 2. Titans get the victory.

Friday September 11

Alta Loma (2-1) at Glendora (2-1)

Alta Loma is looking to bounce back after a 37-14 loss to Etiwanda last week. Glendora lost by a field goal to San Dimas to kick off the season but has rebounded with wins over Walnut and Claremont. This one could go right down to the wire. Both teams have solid quarterbacks with Glendora’s Sebastian Lawrence and Maximus Fierro at Alta Loma. The Lions (yes, they’re the Lions now) grab the lead early and hold on in the end.

Bonita (3-0) at San Dimas (3-0) (Smudgepot)

Bonita is ranked number three in our Top 12 for good reason. The Bearcats beat Muir in Week Zero and blew out their last two opponents including a 41-7 rout of Western Christian last week. And they’re doing it all without quarterback Isaiah Guerrero who is currently on sit out period. Evan Robbins has done a great job stepping up. San Dimas is off to a 3-0 start under new head coach Dylan O’Leary. Last week the Saints shut out Colony 12-0. San Dimas is trying to snap a seven-game losing streak in the Smudegepot. The Saints may be able to hold off Bonita at times but in the end Bonita will have too much. Bearcats come out on top.

Montebello (1-2) at El Rancho (3-0)

El Rancho is the surprise team of the SGV – maybe not to head coach Adrian Medrano but to everybody else. The Dons are 3-0 including an impressive 17-13 road win last week over West Covina. Montebello lost its first two games before answering with a 38-0 win last week over Saddleback. El Rancho looks like a team that can do something special this year. Dons get the W.

Nogales (3-0) at Arcadia (2-1)

Both teams have had nice starts. Nogales has been racking up the points. The Nobles have scored 100 points in the last two weeks- yes, 100! Running back Gatsbee Gumban and quarterback JoJo Venegas have been leading the high-powered offense. Arcadia has been impressive as well. Arcadia fell last week to La Salle but won its first two games handily over El Monte and San Gabriel. Nogales is on a heater right now. It will continue this week.

La Canada (3-0) at South Pasadena (2-1)

Good local matchup. The Spartans have three solid victories to open the season including a 28-7 win last week over Village Christian. South Pas lost an out of area game to Maple Mountain after beating Peninsula in the opener but routed San Gabriel 31-0 last week. This one could go either way. Filp a coin and see what comes up. I did and it came up La Canada.

Muir (1-2) at Bishop Montgomery (0-3)

Muir rebounded from two straight losses by dropping 50 on St. Pius X.- St. Matthias last week. Muir quarterback Kaiden Agbunag left the game with an injury but he’s fine and ready to go this week. Bishop Montgomery is trying to get back on its feet after basically forfeiting the 2025 season. It’s going to take the Knights some time to get back on track. The Mustangs win big.
