Quarterback Grady Long led the La Serna offense. Jordan Bonilla (#2) ready to take the handoff.

(Covina) – La Serna dominated from start to finish in a 45-6 rout of Northview Thursday night at Covina District Field.

The Lancers scored twice in the first quarter, increased it to 28-0 at halftime and cruised the rest of the way. There was a running clock to start the fourth quarter.

After a long Northview drive ended when the Vikings were stopped on fourth down at the La Serna 25-yard line to start the game, the Lancers took over and struck quickly. Just four plays after taking possession Grady Long hit Kenai Summage and he did the rest breaking loose for a 69-yard touchdown for a 6-0 lead after the extra point was missed.

On the very next possession Etoagwara Onyenegecha scooped up a Northview fumble and raced 36 yards for a score with 37 seconds left in the first quarter.

Early in the third quarter the Lancers hit again on another big play. Long found Landon Armenta in the corner of the end zone for a 33-yard touchdown strike and a 21-0 lead.

Later in the quarter La Serna needed just five plays to go 35 yards on another short field. Long capped it himself with a seven-yard touchdown run with just 35 seconds left in the first half. The drive was highlighted by a 24-yard pass from Long to Armenta down to the seven. The Lancers took the 28-point lead into the half.

Northview got on the board early in the third quarter. La Serna fumbled the second half kickoff and the Vikings fell on it at the La Serna 28-yard line. Three plays later Robert Carrasco connected with Jayden Brown who got to the corner and went 20 yards for a touchdown. This was the Vikings last score of the night.

La Serna answered on the next possession on, of course, a big play. Just 17 seconds later Armenta caught a bullet by Long over the middle and outran the Northview secondary for 70 yards to glory.

Later in the quarter Evan Vesper kicked a 27-yard field goal. The Lancers added a little gravy late in the third quarter when backup quarterback Renzo Rowan, who came on to replace Long, worked his way out of the pocket and weaved his way 25 yards through the Northview defense for a 25-yard touchdown run.

Tyler Piumpunyalerd (#75) helped pave the road for the La Serna backfield.

Long finished with 209 yards passing and three touchdowns. Armenta had four receptions for 135 yards and a score. Aaron Guillen had 48 yards on 14 carries for Northview. Carrasco threw for 67 yards and a score for the Vikes.

The great thing tonight for us was the balance. I thought we were able to showcase Grady (Long) a little bit and what he can do,” said La Serna head coach Andy George. “The offense is a bunch of experienced guys who have worked together for a long time and have been working hard. It starts up front with our O-line but our backs are running hard and the receivers are catching the ball.

La Serna remained unbeaten with the victory improving to 4-0. Northview fell to 1-3 with the loss. The Lancers will host Corona del Mar next week while Northview gets the week off with a bye.
