Cal Condor DC Manuel Viera.

Kick it!

UPDATE: Oaks Christian receiver Jordan Payton ends up at UCLA.

SAY WHAT?

I said he signed with UCLA.

Note to Payton Manning: Retire.

Guaranteed things in life? Death, taxes, and Cal High HC Jim Arnold will always tell you his team isn’t going anywhere (He has talent returning in 2012).

True, Maranatha’s Jeremy Major is averaging 25 points a game but one player really shining for the Minutemen is three-point sharpshooter Garren Llorens

Even as white kids growing up in El Monte we still watched “Soul Train” more than we did “American Bandstand”…Always thought the recently passed Don Cornelius was far cooler than Dick Clark and few things were cooler than “Peace, Love, and Soul…” in his sign off.

Last Add Cal: What keeps the Condors competitive is not only Arnold, but an excellent coaching staff. This includes veteran DC Manuel Viera. You have to figure with all the coaching changes going on, Viera’s name could be called soon to fill a void.

I guess we’re doing the Mid Valley Draft this year…Selection Tuesday will be at the end of February.

The last dunk I saw with the ferocity of Blake Griffin’s against the Thunder on Monday night was when Big Tony slammed a jelly donut into his coffee at the Pac 12 media day for basketball. He slammed it into the coffee and jammed it into his mouth.

A guy to keep an eye on? Jacob Brown, outside linebacker for La Canada. Brown will only be a junior next fall.

Another one? Try Kevin Bailey, linebacker, he will be a senior next year for Monrovia.

Some things, actually there a lot of things I love about football. The commitment it takes. The strategy. The chess match a really good game can become. The players who do an incredible job doing their job. The players who tilt the field with big plays. The head coaches who have to stay on top of it all. The assistant coaches who do all the thankless work.

I also love how a season plays out. How a bruise or ankle sprain suffered in week one, will still be there in week 10. I love the unexplainable, the bounce of the ball, and the unexpected hero.

But…I think I would hate to be a recruiter who has the success of an entire year come down to one day and the signature of an 18 year old. As if that wasn’t bad enough the new wrinkle of drama has been added with the selection of hat to indicate where the kid is going.

But…in the end means nothing until the document has a signature in place and the rollers on the fax machine begin to turn.

Arcadia’s Taylor Lagace was originally going to Washington. Ellis McCarthy was originally going to Cal. Oaks Christian receiver Jordan Payton put on a Golden Bear hat at the Army game in Texas and spoke about how excited he was to attend Cal…today he signed with Washington.

Not for me.

The Dude abides…
