Temple City's Dwight Broadnax put on a show in 2006

Temple City's Dwight Broadnax put on a show in 2006

Good Evening!

I’m lamenting…The old Mid Valley Karma ain’t what it used to be…

Technology really stinks sometimes…

I used to be on a new league kick to combat the NFL (I was passionate about the USFL back in the day)…I’m off that now…but another snoozer on Monday Night like Baltimore-Cleveland will unleash whack job ideas about taking on the football establishment…

So please, Roger Goodell, head this off right now and ban Eric Mangini from the league. Then hopefully everyone will return to good and proper thinking…

Do you know what happened September 17, 1993? South El Monte traveled to M-Town and won its first game ever 24-16.

Do you know what happened the last time Monrovia and SEM faced each other on September 18, 1998? The Wildcats Akil Harris, at “The Swamp”, carried the ball 27 times for 400-yards and six touchdowns…(Check out the all time results between the two schools at the bottom of today’s column)

The Eagles and Wildcats meet Friday at Monrovia for the first time since 1998.

Speaking of old times, Burbank hosts Alhambra the two are old Foothill League rivals.

Gee, what’s going on with the Broncos?

Kentucky had a nice win last night/early this morning in this 24-Hour ESPN college basketball tip-off…whatever… Now that John Calipari is the head coach of the Wildcats it might be more important to check the SAT scores of his players than the box score…

This just in: Kentucky freshman John Wall has declared for the NBA Draft next June.

On this date in 2006 La Habra beat Arroyo 55-0 in the first round of CIF…And “His Arroyo Baldness” (Jim Singiser) delivered a post-game message that made the cold, miserable night, worthwhile even as the dude in the skirt blared on the bagpipes…

“It hurts doesn’t it?” He said as players were crying. “If it didn’t hurt then it wouldn’t mean (BLANK).” Then he went on to tell his team they lost this game back in May, in June, in July when he and the rest of his staff had to fight to have them keep focus on the coming season.

I know, I’ve shared this story often…but its gold…and we have a larger audience these days.

On the same evening Covina’s Michael McDonough rushed for 116-yards and two touchdowns, passed for 146-yards and two touchdowns, as the Colts galloped to a 42-7 victory over Nordoff. (Do you like ‘galloped’ as opposed to ‘rolled’? I do.)

Also in the Home of the Camellias Temple City’s Dwight Broadnax scored five touchdowns and rushed for 324-yards in the Rams 51-12 victory over Sierra Vista.

Duarte’s Chris Harris ran for 241-yards and three touchdowns, including a 99-yard scoring run, in the Falcons 37-7 victory over La Canada. The Spartans Lavelle Peterson rushed for 202-yards on 40-carries.

And number one ranked Burroughs fell to Moreno Valley 21-19 at home.

And on this night 20-years ago, Muir’s Sam Willford returned the second half kick-off 92-yards for a touchdown to help turn a halftime deficit into a 27-14 victory over Quartz Hill. Quarterback Demtrice Martin also scored on a 7-yard run as the Mustangs improved to 9-1-1 on the season and advanced to the second round where they beat San Marcos 28-0. They then beat Thousand Oaks 9-3 in overtime to advance to the CIF Finals.

We’ll just close right there with a happy ending.

Stay thirsty my friends…
