Michael O’Shields has stepped down at Walnut after a nine year run

(Walnut) – Michael O’ Shields has resigned as the head coach at Walnut sources confirmed this week.

O’Shields, who took over for Jerry Person in 2006, went 28-63 in a nine year run. The Mustangs only playoff appearance under O’Shields came in 2010 when they were 6-5 overall and lost in the first round to La Serna in overtime.

In 2009, playing in the tough San Antonio League, Walnut finished 7-3 overall but missed the playoffs. The Mustangs, competing in the Hacienda League, have gone 2-8 in each of the last two seasons.

Walnut will begin the search for a new coach immediately.
