Mid Valley Division Defensive Coordinator of the Year: San Dimas’ Danny Lopez

San Dimas

The Saints made an unexpected run into the Mid Valley Division final in 2015. According to Head Coach Mark Holman, his defense played a huge role in making that happen. The architect of that defense this year was Danny Lopez.San Dimas strung together six straight wins to get to the final game that included wins over Mid Valley stalwart Paraclete, and a 26 – point win over Viewpoint while Zach Chulak in check.

In the final, the Saint defense held a potent Sierra Canyon offense, averaging close to 50 points a game, to  a paltry 20 and kept things close enough to have everyone believing there was still hope.

For the season the San Dimas defense gave up just over 18 points and Lopez had the chance to mentor stellar defenders Josiah Erickson (158 total tackles) and Steven Ojeda (147 tackles).

In a “transition” year with no one expecting the Saints to get to the finals, head coach Mark Holman said “the job Danny Lopez did as our defensive coordinator kept us in games when we made mistakes in other areas of our games.”
