1.) Sierra Canyon, 14-1 & Mid-Valley Division champs in 2015, return starting quarterback Niko Harris in 2016. Last season Harris passed for 3,260 yards and 47 touchdowns while completing 66% of his throws against just six picks.

2.) Former UCLA Bruin and Indiana Pacer Reggie Miller turns 51 today.

4.) On this date in 1970, the Los Angeles Lakers’ Jerry West hit his legendary half court shot to send Game Three of the NBA Finals into overtime at the Fabulous Forum. The New York Knicks however went on to win the game in OT and the series.

5.) A year ago today the Muir Mustangs baseball team was 0-16. As of today they are 4-16. The most runs they’ve allowed in a single contest this season is 12. In single contests in 2015 the Mustangs surrendered: 17, 14, 11, 14, 14, 14, 12, 14, 22, 28, 10, 13, 13, 10, 13, 11, & 25. They finished 0-22 last season.

6.) Miami Marlins second baseman Dee Gordon suspended for 80-games by MLB for using two different performance enhancing substances.

7.) UCLA’s Myles Jack falls out of first round of NFL Draft as information about possible micro-fractures in his knee surface.

9.) Monsoon season begins on September 2 when Mayfair travels to Mater Dei. Derek Bedell’s team has lost quarterback Isaiah Jackson to graduation but returns leading rusher Andrew Martinez (694yds, 5Tds)
