Fanview Lite: February 18, 2010

The Don-Man in 2010 could very well be running back Art Franco (photo courtesy of www.erfootball.com)

Good Morning!

T-Minus-204 Days until “The Mid Valley Classic”

The M-Town Ladies going to Mead tonight to face the Lady Panthers is the kind of local match up CIF needs to focus on to generate interest in area basketball.

On the other side of town the El Monte Lady Lions are hosting Irvine in a first round contest. I’ll take the home team.

Speaking of roundball does the Houston Rockets dealing of Tracy McGrady to Sacramento finally  put a period on this dude’s career?

For those asking the player wearing number 10 in yesterday’s Fanview Lite pic is Burroughs back up quarterback Derek Cwik.

Special props to Martin “The Knight” Lopez for keeping me updated during the Arroyo boys first round playoff loss to Magnolia Wednesday night. After hanging tough in the first quarter and trailing only 18-16, the Knights were wore down by the Sentinels in the second half and fell 54-32.

There is no way I’m going to advocate for the Olympics…no way…no way at all…but the USA playing Canada in hockey, now that is interesting.

Forgot to mention this back on Monday, but did anyone notice during All-Star weekend when ESPN’s Jalen Rose was asked to give his five best dunkers of all time he referenced David Thompson, NC State, ABA, Denver Nuggets, as “Dr. Dunkenstein”?

Far be it from me to be petty but David Thompson was called “Skywalker”. Former Knick and Kentucky product Kenny “Sky” Walker had some celebrity slamming the ball in the 1980’s. However David Thomspon was called “Skywalker”.

Who was “Dr. Dunkenstein”? A cat named Darrell Griffith, who won a national championship with Louisville in 1980 and played for several years with the Utah Jazz before his health gave out.

I don’t even follow basketball anymore, but this is the kind of thing that irritates me. Especially when nobody else called Rose out and corrected his error.

I like what Maranatha has done with its schedule as its steps up into the Olympic. The annual match with La Salle has been gaining momentum, but they’ve also added La Canada, Blair, and Salesian. These folks are getting serious.

Does Los Altos have a coach yet? Because I’ve seen its schedule for 2010 and its none too friendly.

And speaking of schedules congrats to Cal for dumping Villa Park and adding Montebello.

Note to Condor HC Jim Arnold: Do you have another Terris Jones tucked away on the roster or should we expect you to go to the air more often with the talented Adam Contreras at quarterback?

Last Add Cwik: Cwik, a senior, stepped in for the injured Lucas Yanez during the Crescenta Valley game and guided his Burroughs team to the victory. The stats don’t come close to telling the story about how well Cwik played when everything was working against the Indians.

If I could have a word with Coach Spags can I point out the difference between Ndamukong Suh a consensus first or second pick in the NFL Draft versus Sam Bradford, who is a questionable pick at best.

Suh is going to work out next week at the NFL Combine. Bradford’s not.

Remember this the Baltimore Ravens won a Super Bowl with Trent Dilfer. Remember Jeff Hostetler, Mark Rypien, Brad Johnson, Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Kurt Warner, and even Bart Starr all won Super Bowls and none were first round draft picks.

Draft Suh!!!

Speaking of quarterbacks (this might be best answered by “The Ranch”) is Troy Campos going to be the El Rancho signal caller next season? There’s big talent in Art Franco, but the defense is taking graduation hits and there’s a lack of girth along the frontline. Unless there are some underclassmen ready to step up the Dons could have trouble in the trenches.

Stay thirsty my friends…
