Ayala’s Curl Too Much for Temple City

Kristian Curl had 40 points including the game winner for Ayala.

(Azusa) – Kristian Curl scored 40 points including a running jumper with three seconds left to give Ayala a 73-71 win over Temple City Tuesday at the Azusa Tournament.

Curl gave the Rams fits all day as he hit from all over the floor and scored well over half of his team’s points. Tied at 71 with eight seconds left after both teams had used time outs, Curl took the ball drove down the right of the key, pulled up and buried a ten foot jumper with just three ticks on the clock.

Temple City took another time out with two seconds left but Jordan Lee’s long three point attempt at the buzzer sailed high over the backboard.

Curl hit 16 of 25 from the field including three from three point land. He was also five for five from the free throw line. Curl had 19 in the first half s he got off to a fast start with 12 in the first quarter. He finished strong as well with 11 in the final frame.

Harry Delpilar Jr. kept Temple City in the hunt with ten points in the first half and led the Rams with 19 overall. Delpilar hit three from long distance.

Temple City trailed 37-32 at the half and 55-51 at the end of three but the Rams did go on a 13-5 run top open the fourth and grab a 64-60 lead as Delpilar and Lee buried threes and Nathan Kuoch knocked down a pair of treys to spark the run. But the Bulldogs scrambled back behind Curl and Evan Clark to ultimately secure the victory.

Clark finished with 22 with 12 of those points coming from behind the arc. No other Bulldog was in double figures.

Temple City had a balanced attack. Kuoch followed Delpilar Jr. with 14, Lee had 13, Elton Lo had 11 and Patrick Ekmekjian tossed in 7.

With the win Ayala improved to 5-2 while Temple City fell to 3-4.
