Mayfair quarterback Evan Hunko

Good Afternoon!

T-Minus-146 Days until “The Mid Valley Classic”

Apparently…We jumped the gun… so, moving rather rapidly along….

Touring the SubUrban Meyer League took us to Mayfair this week. The Monsoons were CIF Finalists in 2008, but fell to 4-7 a year ago. Returning though for a fourth year with the varsity is quarterback Evan Hunko. The 6’4″ triggerman, beginning his second year as the full time starter, has received interest from a number of PAC 10 schools as well as others from across the country. Something for every prep player to keep in mind: Even though Hunko’s stats aren’t overwhelming his GPA is opening opportunities beyond his yards per attempt number.

Not much of a fan of ESPN these days…but “Jon Gruden’s Quarterback Camp” is pretty good. I couldn’t believe the things he was saying to Jimmy Clausen. It’s a safe bet to assume for someone like Clausen (all world recruit/Notre Dame golden boy) it was a different experience than the standard kiester kissing he receives.

How soon until former Philadelphia 76ers head coach Eddie Jordan gets another HC job in the NBA.

Last Add Eddie Jordan: When Jordan played for the Lakers he had the reputation of being a solid defensive player. In fact  he led the NBA in steals before coming to Los Angeles… He was called “The Thief of Baghdad”… The nickname was given to him by Kareem Abdul Jabbar. I wonder if somebody applied the same tag to another player today what sort of stir it would cause?

You know, I never did become a Jet.

In the Mid Valley League (fantasy football) I’ve been the El Monte Jets from the get go and have even won a title…but I never played for the El Monte Jets.

The El Monte/South El Monte Jets have been going since 1962 and this Saturday they will be running their April sign ups at New Temple Park (10:AM) in South El Monte. The prices are great, give them a shot.

My problem however, comes with the upper levels of the Junior All American organization. How come the Jets don’t play the Rosemead Rebels every year? How come they don’t play Temple City or Arcadia. Take your cue from CIF; local football, geographic football, this creates interest. This will draw people.

El Monte’s Sandra Gutierrez will be playing in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune-Pasadena Star News all-star game on April 24th at Damien High School. Rosemead’s Evelyn Ramirez was also selected to the Pasadena Star team.

Stay thirsty my friends…
