Ranch Rolls to 4-0; Beats Montebello 47-16

By Rich Whittington

(Montebello) – The El Rancho Dons had little trouble improving to 4-0, as they defeated the host Montebello Oilers, 47-16, Friday evening, in front of a very vocal, rivalry game crowd at Montebello High School.

The Dons wasted little time in establishing their dominance, scoring their first touchdown only thirteen seconds into the contest. Quarterback Elijah Mitchell connected with Elisco Bojorques for a 40-yard score. Jordan Hernandez successfully converted the Dons 2-point attempt, making the score 8-0 with 11:47 remaining in the first quarter.

The remainder of the first quarter saw the teams exchange field goals. Montebello’s Sebastian Lozano connected from 23 yards away, becoming the first person to score on the El Rancho defense in the 2021 campaign. Not to be outdone, El Rancho’s Jacob Medina connected from 33 yards away, making the score 11-3 at the first period came to a close.

Quarter Two is where the Dons showed their dominance, and took control of the contest. Jacob Medina, playing linebacker, intercepted a pass from Montebello quarterback Michael Valdivia, returning it 61 yards for a touchdown. Medina’s own PAT was successful, making the score 18-3, early in the period. “The Ranch” added another touchdown a few minutes later, when Anthony Bonilla scored on an 18-yard run.

The Dons scored again before the half, as Mitchell found tight end Angel Diaz for an 84-yard catch and run. Medina’s point after attempts were successful after each of these scores, giving the Dona a 32-3 halftime lead.

The Dons picked up where they left off as the second half began…another possession, another touchdown. Mitchell completed a 24-yard scoring toss to Jacob Jimenez at the 8:02 mark of the third. Jimenez also loomed large on the 2-point attempt, finding Bojorquez for the successful conversion. El Rancho scored again in the period, as Mitchell connected with Jordan Hernandez for a 17-yard touchdown. Medina added the kick, making the score 47-3 with 4:53 remaining in the third quarter.

This would be all for Mitchell, who finished the evening with 12 completions on 18 attempts, for 262 yards, and 4 touchdowns.

Montebello also scored in the third quarter, when Raul Gonzalez found the end zone on a six-yard dash. Lozano’s PAT attempt was successful, making the score 47-10 at the end of three.

Montebello added their final score of the evening with one second remaining on the game clock. Enrique Hidalgo scored on a one-yard blast. No PAT was attempted, making the final score 47-16, El rancho.

El Rancho’s next contest is Friday night when the Dons will travel to Santa Ana High School to play the Saints. Montebello’s next game, also on Friday night is at Santa Fe, where the Oilers will battle the Chiefs. Kickoff for both games is scheduled for 7:00 P.M.

El Rancho just dodged a bullet! May be undefeated when they play La Serna.

La Serna will be favored. But their fans don’t represent Whittier. The La Serna faithful don’t even want them playing their home games at home. Too much noise and traffic that will upset “Friendly” Hills. Not a El Rancho supporter. But love that the community supports the local High School, and team made up of local players.

La Serna vs El Rancho. Do you really think it will be competitive. El Rancho will be 8-1 when they play.
They will wish they were playing Don Lugo/Sierra Vista’s of the world!

Any team that puts on pads and cleats and lines up to play football are not cupcakes. ER has yet to play one. The boys respect the players across from them and get respect back. Playing football is tough and hard and it hurts. El Rancho plays with neighborhood kids which I guess 99% of them could walk to the field from their house in 20 minutes. They are having a good season and scoring points but quit calling the teams they have beat cupcakes or some other demeaning term. These teams are just like ER. Made up of kids from the neighborhood. These other teams will come back and have their day against ER. Count on it. And ER might lose big next Friday but one thing for sure, they are not cupcakes.

Yup ER feasting on teams that are a combined 1 and 12 but doing what solid teams need to do. Winning, putting up numbers and keeping those teams down defensively. But they suck according to you. Anonyignoramous. We know, La Serna and Cal are tops but both are 2 and 2 and giving up points. Yeah we suck and you don’t.
