Game Night: Week Four

Ty Pierson and the Arcadia Apaches travel to La Salle Thursday night. (Photo by Duane Barker).

All kickoffs are at 7:00 p.m. unless otherwise indicated.

Thursday September 16

Arcadia (2-1) at La Salle (0-3)

Arcadia has been up and down. Wins over Marina and Whitter with a bad loss to Monrovia in between. La Salle has been only down. The Lancers came close against Kennedy and Muir but still haven’t found a way to win. Arcadia wins a close call.

West Covina (2-2) at Glendora (4-0) (Citrus College)

West Covina has surprised some people with a couple of early wins but this is too much to ask. Glendora is a mountain that the Bulldogs won’t be able to climb. Tartans win handily.

Friday September 17

Arroyo (3-0) at Whittier (1-3) (California)

Arroyo can score. The Knights are averaging 38 points per game in three victories. Whittier lost a shootout last week with Arcadia but have had some offensive struggles in the other three games. The Cardinals defense will need to step or it could be a long night. Arroyo get its fourth straight win.

South Hills (0-4) at Charter Oak (2-2)

It’s been a long year already for South Hills. The Huskies are 0-4 getting outscored 156-47 in the process. Charter Oak won two and lost two but the last two opponents were tough to deal with. I’d like to say South Hills hangs around for awhile before the Chargers pull away. But the Huskies may not even do that. Charter Oak should roll from start to finish.

Harvard-Westlake (3-1) at Pasadena (2-2)

Another tough matchup for Pasadena. The Bulldogs have split the first four games. Harvard-Westlake has won three out of four. The teams have a common opponent in El Camino Real. Pasadena beat El Camino Real 55-23 while Harvard -Westlake took care of the Conquistadors 49-35…a close comparison. Pasadena’s experience in this tough non-league schedule pays off. The Bulldogs hold off the Wolverines in the fourth quarter.

San Dimas (3-1) at Schurr (2-2)

San Dimas stumbled for the first time last week against a solid Bonita team. Schurr split with MVL opponents Arroyo and Rosemead and have split its four games so far this season. The Spartans simply don’t have the firepower to stay with the Saints. San Dimas was held in check last week but that won’t last against Schurr. Teyondre Coleman and the Saints get the W.

San Dimas 34 Schurr 13

St. Francis (1-1) at Muir (2-0)

Both teams have managed to get in only two games so far due to cancellations. St. Francis dropped 44 on Mira Costa in the opener but the Golden Knights were shut down two weeks ago against Damien. Muir is 2-0 but the Mustangs combined record of their opponents is 1-4. St. Francis should be fine here. They have too much for Muir.

St. Francis 41 Muir 17

St. Paul (3-0) at Diamond Ranch (1-3)

Diamond Ranch has lost three out of four and its only win is over winless South Hills. St. Paul is rolling having blitzed its three opponents by a combined score of 145-22. This one won’t be close. Diamond Ranch may get one late but that’s about it. All St. Paul.

    ?,

You’re kidding right? How many students were on school campuses in March compared to now? And some teams did pull out of limited games in the Spring due to protocols. Come on now…think! Please!!!!

    Anonyignoramous,
Yup looks like ER are some lucky cats. Bet that irritates the heck out of you. Bet they’ll take it. But I do notice that they don’t boast like the Cal and the LS types. Looks like they are taking care of business 1 game at a time. I do notice you sure like to bag on them alot. Probably an LS fan or possibly Cal. What’s the term that’s over used? Oh yeah, they live rent free in your head. Ha ha. Whatever the outcome this year, celebrate the local teams’ successes and be grateful that the games are on

If it happens it happens, all we can do is play the game, heck we may not be undefeated Friday or next week or the week after, whats the point of even looking that far ahead.

An interesting thing. During games in March when infection rates in socal were much higher than they are now there were not many if any cancellations of scheduled games. Today in socal teams are bailing every week. They say protocal but why now and not then? I think some programs find it convienient to bail when good players are unavailable due to grades, injury or other reasons. A cancellation should be a loss.

El Rancho got some luck on their side. They get to avoid losing to Santa Ana. The can possibly be unbeaten when they face La Serna. Then the cries from the Ranch after the beat down!
