nah he stopped teaching as well , he picked up a teaching gig at his new school as well
Once again proving why you don’t know ish about football.
The Bosco Transfer really made a difference. He is the best talent in the league by a large margin.
This isn’t a knock on Spathias, he’s a good coach; but what other program did he turn around besides Basset? And besides, it’s not like Basset was beating teams over their heads when he was at the helm. His last season, they went 5-5. He had a decent 7-4 season at Los Altos after taking over a team that was just in the CIF Championship. He went 5-6 at Workman both seasons. Again, hardly a ringing endorsement for a team in such a horrid league and definitely not the big claims that he made when he said that he and his coaches are “the best coaching staff in the San Gabriel Valley.”
This is a valley with Hagerty, George, Faraar, Maggiore, Ceniseros, and many others who are far and above Spathias. When have you ever heard any of those coaches make such a braggadocious claim?
It’s time for Ramos and his coaches to resign. We always have big expectations and he just could never deliver he’s been the man in charge for years, we get the most talented kids in the almont league and he could never get the job done. Schurr deserves better!
greener pasture! NO NO he does not need more money. I think he and staff just want to take their work on the road and try do it again. Definitely not the $$$$; guarantee. Spathias is an intelligent man and has great staff who enjoy building programs. I think Spathias enjoys the ‘adventure’ (no i not claiming perfect correctness, but using my experience and brains on this commentary) ; adventure in form of challenging their staff to try turn a poor program into average, or most likely good program. Done it few times, even turned bassett baseball program into very good program years ago
I agree, ER looked absolutely terrible for almost 3 quarters, not sure what happened, but if ER plays like that they will lose every game the rest of the season, not just vs La Serna.
Can’t wait to see El Rancho get manhandled for the La Serna Lancers.
TRASH!!!!!!!!!!!
ER – SF = TRASH
MY GOD, THIS HAD TO BE THE WORST GAME I HAVE SEEN. IT WAS AS IF I WAS WATCING TWO MONKEYS CHANGE A LIGHT BULB.
NOBODY ON THESE TEAMS WILL EVEN MAKE OUR SECON STRING.
WE WILL ENJOY RUNNING THE SCORE UP ALL LEAGUE
GO LANCERS!!!!!!!!!
The best and worst thing that happened to me in high school was the Algebra teacher that refused to sign my permission slip to play football my Junior year one Friday night. I still remember that look from him like it was last night. He warned me weeks before but I ignored it. That totally reversed my learning habits. It crushed my old man. He loved the game. Never missed one but he did that night. Never came close to happening again.
A few of our coaches went to watch ER-SF game. They said each team has maybe one player that could make our 2nd string. Nobody to poach from these teams.
Almont wide open, interesting that schurr hasn’t been able to dominate Ramos has had time to install his culture, they need a dynamic coach
ER I agree. Your DB’s are really bad. Injuries happen but no excuse for grades.
@ Through the Haze: I believe you’re right on the mark. First, there were official investigations, an expose in the Los Angeles Times, and a lawsuit. Now, many months later, there’s only total silence.
Yes, a lot of money must have exchanged hands, with nondisclosure agreements signed by everyone concerned. I haven’t even seen any announcement about a legal settlement, but that’s the direction in which the Mater Dei hazing scandal appears to have gone.
BHS can be in good shape if it can get more coaches on JV and Varsity they had a good turn out with kids playing this year need to keep the kids interested in playing.
What a difference a large payoff makes…the Mater Dei program is now squeaky-clean, having cleansed itself by purchasing the silence of its victims. Everyone is on board the national championship wagon, without a shred of worry about misconduct or immorality.
I think it will take him 2 or 3 seasons to get the program back on track. I don’t think he felt appreciated and supported at Bassett. But obviously a pay raise always helps.
Bassett beat Garey yesterday 35-28. Is Spat still teaching at Bassett? I thought he left BUSD when he started coaching at El Monte.
NWO??
Yeah and maybe if MHS catches that ball over the middle and don’t fumble on key possessions the score would’ve been a lot higher for the Oilers. Basically MHS played mediocre and won easily.
Well another mediocre season for Schurr.
2nd in league and will lose in the 1st round of playoffs.
To he 100% honest, it was a very odd game, ER was comfortably up 20-0 in the 2nd quarter, the offense was moving the ball well, then the laundry started flying like crazy, self inflicted, bad refs idk who cares it don’t matter. Very ugly game for ER in the 2nd half, Santa Fe deserved to win, losing multiple key DB’s to injury and grades is hurting ER, but gotta have a next man up mentality. Can’t disrespect or take any team lightly as they can rise to the occasion as SF did tonight. cal was up 20-0 and won by 6, don’t think 2nd place belongs to anyone right now, as neither team looked impressive at all.
Santa Fe should have beaten ER on ER’s homecoming celebration. After 20 -0 lead in 2nd quarter ER could only muster 3 OT points. Barely beat a team that got clobbered by Montebello, Rosemead and Burbank. -40 Cal Preps rank. If ER took a dive they played it to close. If not they stunk up the joint. 2nd place in the Del Rio is Cals to lose. They beat ER by 25 points right now. Whittier beats them by 14. La Serna playing in the Del Rio only makes sense in that it allows them a good look at a few guys they may want to recruit for next year.
Two very questionable calls on 4th and 3 two separate times by the SG coaches. Possibly could have changed the outcome.
South El Monte just saved their season! Had they lost that game then Arroyo next week an 0-3 start was real. That over time victory was huge! The griffin bowl will decide the number 3 team this year more than likely.
Arroyo took care of business and they look like they’ll steam roll through league. I don’t see anyone coming close.
Rosemead stays hot and beat the Vikings pretty easily. They are starting to cement themselves as the number 2 team in league.
If you know anything about Spat is he is well off. Spat don’t need the money, he made his money before he got into teaching. I think he got into real estate back in the day when you can pick property of at a reasonable price. Why wouldn’t he leave Bassett for El Monte, bigger student body and Bassett is what it is. I know my kids when to Bassett and Bassett is run like a bad business.
@anonymous and your reason for being in a small southern Cali high school blog is…. I’ll wait for your respons..
Sitting on my porch cuz it’s Friday…….me and my Modelo.
You never been on the Spathias Express 🚆. They’re a physical squad. Expect them to win out in the MVL and go into division 13 as a 2nd seed.
Anybody have a summary on the Cal-Whittier game?
@ Clueless anonymous: You don’t get it. The kids as you put it are the pawns of this site. Put a helmet on them and they don’t matter. You think only under 18’s should comment? This blog would be dead over night. It is run and supervised by admittedly old guys that do this for kicks and giggles and maybe a free taco once in a blue moon. The posters are of the same makeup. Players are warned to stay off this site. But old relatives of players read it more than the LA. Times. Soon as my grandkids are done with football I doubt I will ever use this site again except for kicks and giggles.
That’s sad you stay on here talking trash about kids… what a life you have lmao💀
lol, dude you’re throwing shade about a small southern california hs league team, lmfao it’s not like these are big schools anyways. you’re probably a grown a** adult so why don’t YOU humble yourself and get out of these comments please and just let these highschool kids play.
No excitement here
lol….I hope SEM people dont start with we figured it, and start talking madness… Stay humble with the 1 game winning streak please….
What’s going on at El Monte???
Spathais left Bassett for more money 💰 Not all about the W.
