Arroyo Makes Moye’ Head Coach

Pete Moye’ has been named the new head football coach at Arroyo.

By Tim Peterson

(El Monte) – Arroyo named former Sierra Vista head coach Pete Moye’ as its next head football coach he confirmed Tuesday.

Moye’ was the head coach at Sierra Vista in 2021. The Dons went 0-8 that season. Moye’ also was the defensive coordinator at Los Altos prior to his stint at Sierra Vista, when he coached on Travis Brown’s staff. Moye’ most recently coached at Cerritos College and South East High School.

“I’m excited to get back to the SGV. The guys before me Jim (Singiser), Chuck (Leonardis) and Johnny (Argo) have set high standards so I got to keep those up and continue the success that Arroyo has had,” Moye’ said. “I’ve got some kind of pressure but it’s a good kind and it means things are expected of us.”

Moye’ takes over for Johnny Argo who stepped down after just one season.

The Knights went 6-5 overall last season (5-0 on the Mission Valley League) and lost in the first round of the CIF Division 12 playoffs to Arrowhead Christian.

It’s so crazy to me that so many of us saw Singiser in the booth with headphones on, full blown coaching and Tim still denies it. DELETED.
From T. Peterson: In the booth? I saw him down on the field. I talked to him at the South El Monte game. He was there along with Leonardis and MacMillan…the whole crew. I never denied that. It was all over the site last year. Was that supposed to be your scoop or something? That they were helping Argo out? Hahahaha! I’m talking about this hire specifically. Singiser had nothing to do with it. And going forward he won’t either. Why is this so hard for you to comprehend? Also sorry but I deleted the rest of your comment. It was too idiotic to post. Just wanted to save you the embarrassment.

That team was abominable. They played 8 games and were outscored 352- 32 !
7 of the 8 games went running clock and could have been worse .

Someone needs to go look into what’s going on at John Glenn hs., heard that a coach hit a kid and another wasn’t even hired and was staff for the recent season. Where is the hc at, was he even there when the kid was hit. Seems like the administration at the school and district are gonna sweep another incident under the rug just because Penny is the hc of the team. Another questionable hire and another cover up.

No, Singiser may not have steered the administration into this hire. But what are we to make of Jim’s presence in the booth, wearing headphones, during many of last year’s games? If we’re going to be honest here, let’s simply admit that a fine coach (Singiser) wanted relief from the full-time grind this job has become, but he still finds enjoyment in playing an important part of the operation. I would be shocked if he didn’t want anything to to with it!

With Jim’s continued input assured, the administration felt comfortable naming just about anyone as the nominal HC. In fact, the worse the selection the better–because then Jim’s input becomes even greater. The notion that a coach–any coach—is entirely his own man in the running of a football program is laughable, as is the idea that the U.S. president always gets to do what he personally wishes.
From T. Peterson: You’re first sentence is correct. Singiser was not involved in the hire. And going forward he won’t be involved in the program. As he likes to tell me “Not happening”.

“Don’t know about The White House“. Really. What a moronic statement. As moronic as the dude’s take at Arroyo. Absolute idiocy.
From T. Peterson: What’s moronic is that people still comment on politics on this site. So again I don’t know about the White House because I won’t talk about it on my website. You were right about one thing though. His take on Arroyo was moronic.

In moye defense we took over sierra vista after Sergio Villasenor step down in April so moye had a short off-season, tough to judge him based on that one year alone. Only thing I would say it’s telling that the administration pulled the plug on moye after one year given that they should have known it was at least a two year rebuild

There’s not a talent pool of coaches that wants to take these head coaching jobs. Who wants to deal with social media generation complaining about how horrible the coaches are while they sit at home on their butts. These coaches invest more time with these kids than thier own families. The pay isn’t worth the headache.

Give the coach a chance. It can’t be worse than the last coach who was also hired from being a friend of a friend. Now the friend also jumped ship to coach at another school. Stay positive and wish the knights best of luck.

Definitely the kind of guy that’s going to say it’s the way he looks and not his coaching on why he didn’t succeed and got let go. Heard that is what happen at his last hc spot. But then you look at numbers.

The Arroyo situation is highly comparable to what’s happening in our federal government: a guy who appears to be incompetent gets named as the chief, but somebody else is really in charge. In the case of Washington, the real dude is Obama…in the case of Arroyo, it’s Singiser. Thus constituted, Biden gets the blame for the outrageous antics of Barack, and the latest Arroyo proxy coach can take credit for the behind-the-scenes efforts of Jim.
From T. Peterson: Don’t know about The White House, but your take on Singiser is completely wrong. He was not part of this hire at all. He is completely removed from the hiring process. I mean it’s also obvious based on the hire. Moye had no ties to Arroyo at all. Believe me he wasn’t involved.

Wow …..administrators are using different criteria than those commenting on this site . Many schools list previous head coaching experience as necessary for application. They don’t know or care how much of a dumpster fire it may have been ; they don’t research or know the quality of programs candidates were involved with; there are political pressures on campus; friends take care of friends ..:::
I don’t understand the recycling of poor quality head coaches but it’s a constant.
This hiring along with the Burroughs hire are top of the list as headscratchers, and I’ll predict that these two league champs do not repeat. In Arroyo’s case it is ten time repeating league champ!

I don’t know this guy but to be fair to him, the talent at Arroyo is thin. They’ll still be top dog in the MVL but that’s not saying much. The league is way down.

Everyone cool your jets man. These comments are weak. All this hire says is that the Singiser era seems to be officially over, nothing more than that…..
Give Moye a chance. He inherited a team at Sierra Vista that had a whole bunch of players jump ship before he could even get started.
