Singiser Joins Arcadia’s Staff

Former Arroyo Head Coach Jim Singiser has been hired as the DC at Arcadia.

By Tim Peterson

(Arcadia) – Former Arroyo head coach Jim Singiser has joined the staff at Arcadia new Apaches head football coach Eric Elias confirmed late Tuesday night.

Singiser was the head coach at Arroyo for 17 years before stepping down after the 2019 season. He guided the Knights to a CIF title in 2016.

Singiser will be the defensive coordinator at Arcadia and assisting Elias in his first year as head coach.

“He will be the DC and helping me with everything I need to know about being a head coach. I respect that man and his advice. He’s a good friend and mentor,” Elias said.

Dude, have you seen MVL quarterback’s? None are over 6 feet! Arroyo worked hard and they were well coached. Usually when that happens, you win.
Don’t sit there and tell us that their athletes were no better than Rosemead, El Monte, SEM, Mt View and Gab. Sometimes, the other schools were close or better but not always. Pound for pound, they had the best football players in the league.
If Singiser started coaching at Mt View in 2003 and not Arroyo, you’re telling me he would have had similar success?
Talent makes a big difference. Also, how can you sit there and tell me their other sports don’t win? They won CIF in baseball and wrestling recently. Don’t be a bozo.

Saying Arroyo(Singiser) won all those years because they had better athletes is bull excrement, If Arroyo had all the best athletes, how come other sports didn’t win every year like football.
Arroyo has had 12 All-CIF QBs in the past 30 years . 2 of them were over 6 feet tall
Better athletes? maybe Better coached yep
Some once said when asked how good a coach was, answered He can take his team and beat your team and take your team and beat his. Singiser could do that

I try to stay off of these things, but some of the comments are so totally off base-along with some that have some sense of sense to them. I have known him, coached with and for him for 30 years-you can take this for what it’s worth. During his time as DC and HC, Arroyo had some very talented teams/players; some better than average talent; some average talent and even some below average talent. But regardless of how talented they were, him and his Varsity staff worked their butts off and coached every one of those teams/players up to the absolute best of their ability. I have been fortunate to have been around a lot of very good coaches- in football and many other sports. I have never been around any coach that breaks film and installs a defense as well as he does. It is no accident that Arroyo has always been very good on that side of the ball. Add to that with Coach Mac and Coach Leonardis on the offensive side-that was the reason they were consistently good! His reasons for going to Arcadia are his and his alone. Bottom line is he still has the desire to be a DC, and there was not an opportunity to do that at Arroyo.

This is the most active post recently with some diverse points of view . I don’t know any of the principals invovled , but having coached at five schools over the past 17 years I can shed some relevant thoughts ,

Coaching has to be fun for it to be rewarding and successful. You have to like and respect the head coach and other core members, and everyone has to be on same wavelength with purpose, style and game planning . If not it’s a long season not worth the few dollars of recompense. If you don’t like or respect the head coach , or you think you are better qualified it can be a miserable season . Good coaches have to pick their spots to devote their energy and develop players into winners .

No the comments are coming from the people that see the writing on the wall. Jim’s a great coach and he always had talent. Talent is gone so he’s gone. I don’t blame him. Who wants to suck.

All the negative comments on here are probably coming from disgruntled Arroyo alumni or parents, knowing Arroyo is not going to be what it used to be. Maybe Coach Singiser just needed a new fresh start at a new place. There’s nothing more to prove at Arroyo, he accomplished what he needed to. More power to him in trying something new. A new challenge can be motivating. Week 2 Arroyo vs Arcadia might be interesting.

He deserves the right to do what he wants to do, and staying at Arroyo is not what he wants to do! You critics that comment with small insults like ‘less talent at Arroyo so he is gone’ is ignorant. Ever consider he wants to not be in charge of the varsity program now? Maybe wants little rest/ / ? Some commentary is by people who have never , ever head coached ( or maybe never assisted) ! He won league so many times, and even if talent is down Arroyo , especially with him, most likely win league again and again. Will El Monte improve with very good staff enough to better Arroyo?

As an assistant HC, Singiser is free to spew all manner of advice to young Eric, and if the program flops, he can walk away with the attitude that the kid just didn’t implement his plan correctly. Conversely, if the thing is successful, Jim can take total credit for injecting Arcadia with the ‘right stuff.’

Are you guys stupid! Jim always coached the kids on campus never did he sell his soul to recruiting. If you think he didn’t coach up kids, you 1 don’t know football 2 did not know the talent pool at Arroyo. Get a clue! Haters! He never had D1 legit prospects and still always won. Sit down and shut up!!

    Arroyo Alum…
Arroyo folks have been trying to make people drink that kool-aid for years. Every now and then Arroyo “struggled” and finished in 3rd place. They had a good coach, they worked hard but there’s no denying that all around they had the best talent in the MVL.
If that’s the case then why doesn’t Singiser keep coaching and keep winning? Because he knows talent is thin and it’s getting worse.
They’re gonna keep winning the MVL but they will no longer be able to compete with good non-MVL teams.

If you really follow arroyo football, you will know that arroyo has never had the most talented players. They never pass the eye test. What they did have were hard working kids who were coached up and put in great schemes. Jim ran a solid program. Talented kids were not transferring in like it was a private school. Jim is great coach who had a great coaching staff as well.

He’s a good coach, let’s not get that twisted. He’s also always had talent. Talents gone so he’s gone. He’s never had to rebuild like they did at El Monte or SEM or Rosemead. Good dude but doesn’t want to coach a talentless team. I guess it hurts his pride. Arroyo football will never be the same.

By the way….the 2009 Rosemead team that lost to Paraclete in the finals ABSOLUTELY mops the floor with the 2016 Arroyo CIF champs.

He has never been a great coach he always had all the talent in El Monte. Now that the
MVL Is so bad he doesn’t want to actually put time into these kids. Coaching non-football players takes alot of work and Jim doesn’t know how to do that. It’s always easy to walk away and go coach better players. Arcadia is still going to struggle but a step up from Arroyo and the MVL for sure.

Moye not getting Singiser signed is his first loss of the season. The man knows what it takes to win teams championships. Singiser is going to walk 15 seconds passed the practice fields to go coach 15 minutes down the street. Moye already a bust.

It wasn’t the money. They left Arroyo because the talent is not what it used to be. The MVL overall is at the lowest point it’s ever been. Singiser was not gonna coach a .500 team.

    @Bottom Line,

You might be able to say that about Leonodis but not Singiser. Singiser was the HC for nearly 20 years.

But I do agree with you. Give More money, require less time. It’s deserved. Also got to give credit to the few who are seasoned HC’s and have been doing it for 10 plus years. There aren’t very many of those guys in the mid valley area. Williams, Pete, and Maggiore are the first ones that come to mind and even Maggiore had a brief hiatus.

The exit of both Singiser and Leonardis from head coaching tells us that this job needs to be more fairly compensated, or reduced to a non-year-round affair (or both). I mean no disrespect to the current crop of head coaches, but the situation in HS football has become such that we are stuck with a bunch of short -timers who are a year or two away from discovering that the job is just not worth it.
