(San Marino) – San Marino defensive end/ offensive lineman Mitch Mooney has committed to Brown University it was confirmed late Thursday night.
Mooney, who is getting ready for his senior season, played on both sides of the line last year for the Titans.
On the defensive side he had 85 tackles, 9 sacks, 3 caused fumbles and 26 quarterback hurries last year as a junior. On the offensive line he piled up 35 pancake blocks.
Mooney is the son of former Temple City/San Marino head football coach Mike Mooney, who played at Temple City and also went on to play in college at USC.
“An Ivy League school. That’s just surreal,” Mike Mooney said.
San Marino kicks off the season Friday night August 23 at Heritage Christian.
@SM@gmail,
I think you misread my sarcasm dude. I was responding to “Truth” who made his “born on third comment.”
This is a great accomplishment for the young man which shouldn’t be undermined by jealous adults who likely couldn’t complete classes at PCC much less the Ivy League.
@FBF
You full of DELETED. Always trying to make something out of nothing. The kid can play and he has to go out there and prove himself everyday or he will not get playing time.
@Truth,
Yes because the kids of high school teachers and coaches have all advantages in life (sarcasm).
@Truth I’m familiar with the phrase, just not sure how it applies to my son’s journey?
@TRUTH, what kind of stupid comment is that??? I bet that kid out worked you or anyone you know in every way. That’s the real truth
“Kid was born on third base and he thinks he hit a triple.”
Ivy League is surreal. Congratulations, young man. The world truly is your oyster. Use this opportunity for good and ignore the forces of the current zeitgeist on campus. I’m guessing (just a guess) he’s going to play O-Line at Brown since he’s playing that position on offense (rather than a skilled position like TE or RB) at a program like San Marino.
