I saw a very undisciplined Muir handle Schurr without any problems. If they had a coach and players that listened it would’ve been a massacre. Get out of here. Schurr belongs in the lower levels. Not with the big dogs.

@Detached Observer, in response to what you said about La Puente having “some tradition,” I would counter (w/some skin in the game behind that statement), that that fraction of a tradition was a long time ago, unless I misunderstood your point. I, for one, tend to think back to the late 70s/early 80s when my dad played for them; maybe, maybe, we’re talking the late 80s. Yet, all of that was more down to the league/divisions they played in during those times. If that check from the proverbial Bank of Nostaligia is supposed to mean something…well, not even the true powerhouses programs (or even the more competitive ones of the time) they played against are cashing in on those checks nowadays. Poor LPHS and Workman have been nothing but feeder areas for the likes of–generally speaking–Amat, LA, and even Wilson (if not also Servite–i.e., mid-200s–at certain times).

Start with El Rancho @ Los Amigos. Los Amigos having a dream season for them. 11-0 and going for a sweep. El Rancho the Thursday Night Lights team has not been a dream but at times a nightmare. Los Amigos is a running team putting the ball in the air only 8 times a game on average. They are big on the line and will try to pound El Rancho into submission. I have seen plenty of the Dons as they play on Thursday. The one thing I can say is that have yet to play any thing close to their potential. They don’t need their A game a B game would be great. One huge plus against Bell Gardens, a real nightmare game, was that the Ranch limited dumb penalties. That alone along with a couple of miracle plays gave them the win. Toss-up game. La Serna coming up.

It’s way more random than that . You can’t calculate your division with schedule ; you can’t earn a home game – CIF determines that in arbitrary manner. . 100 mile road trips are not easy to navigate and win .

Sure the principle you site is valid to some extent . But LaPuente is a large public school with a nice field and some tradition . They are in one of the weakest leagues , but still have the weakest D14 teams in ALL preseason games . Rosemead is their strongest nonleague opponent lol. They’ve had the same fate last two years, big margins against pathetic foes , late stumbles and first round flame outs !

Northview and CO folks need to stop crying about the new playoff format and get with the times. If you’re always a qualifier in league then you need to schedule up in preseason. It gets you ready for playoffs and allows proper calibration of your power rating for determining your proper division. Balance out your schedules folks it ain’t rocket science.

FootBall Guru ? Has ‘know it all” ever considered that often weak (and weaker) teams may want to win a couple games during non league season? Is it possible (no I do not know LP success lately but when I did know LP they were not too successful) that winning some games early might motivate players more than losing, especially when the program has been suffering? Is it possible that you might be incorrect in your comment? No I did not say you were , but is it possible the head coach believed ‘let us get some victories and start on the positive side of emotions? This strategy has worked very well for many teams.

Charter Oak should hold its season from February through July. Every year it’s the same thing from them – 7v7 and a lot of hype. They can play ball when it’s shirts and shorts, but they get got when it’s time to strap up and play big boy football.

Arroyo should give him his walking papers next week. They should’ve won but just like the El Monte, South El Monte games. He got OUTCOACHED again. He needs to go. Bring Back Leonardis!

Lets hear it for the D….

Low point- total lack of class- of the year award–
A players mother repeatedly and loudly ordering her son to injure a player on the opposing team
“(her son’s name) Someone in (opposing teams color uniform) has to go to the hospital!”
This was repeated at a decibel loud enough to be heard anywhere in the stadium at least 10 times.
Note this was after repeated orders by the parents of that player to leave the field of play to take directions from them.

Classy — If you are a parent in the stands, and you feel the need to stand in the front row be a jerk, your son is likely embarrassed by you and others need to apologize for you.

What would the score be if Garfield played Schurr?
    Schurr 42 Garfield 0

Just say you hate Schurr and you’re glad they lost . Feel free to explain why you hate them . I guess it has something to do with transfers .
But don’t denigrate a program or a great team because of playoff loss these days . They moved up to D6 got a bad draw in the COF lottery and competed admirably .
Many good teams lost last night. Some great frickin teams lost last night . For example an undefeated Brea Olinda team that was D11 type non playoff team last year , had to take an hour drive to play Palos Verdes who was 5-5 but was D2 ( lost to Mission Viejo!!) last year .
They lost 16-10 . Northview similar story .
Playoffs are fun I guess, but don’t attach that much meaning to them anymore .

Game came out as I predicted. The Ranch’s bacon was saved by #27 Anthony Orihuela. Time running out and trailing by 4 El Rancho faced a 4th and 7. Going for broke Medrano called a pass play over the middle. A lob pass over the head of Orihuela should have fell incomplete. Somehow this kid one-handed it like Odell Beckham and El Ranch’o winning drive continued. Barring that catch Bell Gardens wins. Tough one to lose for Bell Gardens fine fan base.

CIF is watching the ticket revenue from these cellar-dweller divisions to see if the public still buys the idea that there is real championship action here. They know the football is dreadful, but they also know they’ve got the family, friends and long-suffering alums locked in, because those guys feel obligated to show up. The question CIF faces is this: do they add even more lousy teams to the mix, by going to 20 divisions, hoping to cover their expenses and make a little more, or do they cut the divisions down to where people realize they’re being offered a quality product?

If you think I’m way off base in my criticism, notice that Mid Valley Sports has no write-ups on these cellar-dweller games, only the final scores.
