Athletics Notes: 4/11/2025

By Tim Byrnes

The A’s lost a tight 2-1 game Wednesday to go 1-2 in the series against the Padres. The lone win, a 10-4 blowout Tuesday, broke an eight-game losing streak to San Diego.

The Athletics can’t wait to see SD starter Dylan Cease again, as he gave up nine earned runs in the first three innings. While with the White Sox, he gave up eight earned runs in 4.1 innings vs the A’s.

A’s Batting:
Jacob Wilson is playing on a 1yr-$760,000 guaranteed contract. The Athletics need to extend him TODAY!

Son of former Pirates/Braves Jack Wilson, a .265 career hitter, Jacob has hit safely in every game this season. Hitting .396, he is second in the American League in batting average.

Tyler Soderstrom is making a case for having an even better start. He is leading MLB in home runs with six. He is second in OPS, 9th in batting average, and 16th in RBIs.

A’s Pitching:
As expected, starting pitcher Joey Estes, with a near 15.00 ERA, was sent to Las Vegas, and RHP Jason Alexander was promoted to West Sacramento.

The rest of the starters have bloated ERAs, with Osvaldo Bido’s 3.00 ERA being the exception–and he’s still getting hit really hard. Lots of warning track shots that continue to stress the fans.

Note: The California sun played havoc with both teams in this series, and many fly balls became adventures.

Looking Ahead:
The 8-4 New York Mets come to West Sac for three games. They’re batting a dismal .210 and having issues scoring runs. Due to a stellar 2.10 team ERA, they are 0.5 games out of the National League East lead.

Probable Friday Starters:
NYM Griffin Manning (0-1)2.75 ERA vs Athletics JP Sears (1-1)3.46 ERA

Local is subjective… If memory serves me correct, I watched Max Muncy (No relation) and Jacob Wilson (Thousand Oaks) play against Bonita in the 2021 semifinals. What are the odds that two guys in high school ended up playing on the same pro team (A’s)?

I can understand the “Dodger notes”after all they are local ,but Athletics? There has never been a So Cal to the A’s.
MVS Staff: We expect the A’s fanbase to expand when it comes to Las Vegas. Which is also why we’ve been posting some Raiders updates (Autumn Winds).
