- The National League beat the American League in a home run swing off in the MLB All-Star game Tuesday night in Atlanta. The game was tied 6-6 after nine innings but Kyle Schwarber of the Philadelphia Phillies hit three home runs to propel the NL to a 4-3 home run swing off victory. This was the first time in history that a game was decided by a swing off. Schwarber was named MVP.
- Cal Raleigh of the Seattle Mariners won the Home Run Derby Monday night.
- The New York Jets signed receiver Garrett Wilson to a four-year, $130 million extension.
- The Jets also inked cornerback Sauce Gardner to a four-year extension with at least $60 million guaranteed.
- Former Los Angeles Ram defensive tackle Rosey Grier turned 93 Monday. Grier is the oldest living former NFL player.
- The Kansas City Chiefs signed right guard Trey Smith to a four-year, $94 million extension.
- Former Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Jim Clancy passed away at the age of 69. Clancy spent 12 of his 15 seasons with the Blue Jays and was an All-Star in 1982.
- Rowand’s CJ Carrillo received an offer from the University of Puget Sound.
- Northview alum Dean Curley was selected in the second round of the MLB draft by the Cleveland Guardians.
- Philadelphia 76ers star Paul George underwent arthroscopic knee surgery Monday and will be reevaluated prior to the start of training camp in September.
5) …..I had the opportunity to meet Rosey about 40 years ago . He lived in the same condominium complex in Brentwood as my then girlfriend. . He’s total class ,a friendly and warm person despite his stature and status .
