league is filled with D8-D9 teams and just like in 23 when they lost to d2 schools and d3 schools during regular season because they “schedule up” historically Ls is capable of beating those types of teams if you dig deep in the history of LS. dropped into d5 and just ran the table the only competitive team they saw in post season was in the state finals game. expect that to happen this season in a lower division with less talent, after watching the live stream vs rancho bernardo this LS team isnt a team like the past when it comes to talent

I doubt La Serna would fall all the way to D8. Lowest is probably D6 if your overall record prediction comes through… although I wouldn’t really know for sure since I refuse to subscribe to hsratings.com haha.

Blueprint? They have been in D4 and 5 the last two years and won and got to the finals.

@Fall Schurr plays Franklin , City Section , they better win that one …:.

Of course , losing in preseason gives them improved chance of playoff run being placed in lower division

La Serna will go 1-5 in preseason and then run the table in league and get a well deserved D8 playoff run I’m surprised more schools haven’t used this blueprint. CIF is diabolically watered down. that Rancho Bernardo team had 30 players with multiple kids starting on offense and defense.
Shout Out Eric Weddle who out coached LS
don’t sleep on SCHURR, this will be the game of the week.

    @old fart

La Serna going to have a running clock on every team in league. Seeing Cal got better, ER always solid and Santa Fe I don’t think I’ll be the same from the last two years it could be a four team playoff after the a tie for second.

    La Serna 7-3 (4-0) D5
    Cal 5-5 (2-2) D12
    ER 6-4 (2-2) D11
    SF 4-6 (2-2) D12
    Whittier 3-7 (0-4)

vikes? Well yes they have been one of the worst programs since the mid to late eighties when they placed third in MVL four times in a row; yet only chosen for playoffs twice. I give Paredes the respect based on his very good success and I think , in a very weak league, the program will improve by second season! if it does watch out for couple transfers.

You’re right … MHS is not very good. But to our defense, we use all home grown players. We don’t poach like your whack school. We do our best.
As for your school? You guys got smacked around again. You will probably have a decent season come playoffs. Then it’s one and done as usual. Keep pounding that chest. It really doesn’t matter.

Rancho Bernardo is a step down from teams that LS has played in the past (Tesoro, La Costa Canyon, Chula Vista) so I expected LS to put up a competitive win, not a loss… but to say RB is the equivalent to D1 LA city team is just trolling. LS needs to put up a win against Schurr or it’s going to be a looooong season. I think it might be another competitive game if La Serna doesn’t improve… but they ultimately have too many athletes for Schurr to handle. Interested to see how that game ends up.

The Santa Fe/Pioneer contest was also surprising… seems SF is down this year because while Pioneer had success last year in D14, it shouldn’t compare to a D11 team like SF. Santa Fe doesn’t look like they have a large amount of seniors and more of a mixture of Seniors to Sophomores. Glad Pioneer gave them a competitive game… reminds me of the old days of the rivalry games of the past. Cool to see.

El Rancho is always coached up and solid for the talent they have. I expect them to be the same this year. A lot of people give props to Andy George of LS for being the best coach in the league, but Medrano just feels like the better candidate as he is working with more homegrown kids as opposed to the open district of the much larger pool of kids from Whittier Union. Dude is just so consistent and puts a lot more effort into player development. I could be wrong but that’s just my opinion.

Cal and Whittier both got wins with Cal’s being the most convincing indicator that they are a different team this year. To put up that many points against the mighty Nobles is definitely not a small task for the Condors who yielded one win last season… against Whittier. Still too early to tell but at least both teams seem to be having a strong start.

Looking forward to seeing if there could possibly one more shakeup in the DRL standings; especially with this being the last year it will be in this format. I doubt anyone could challenge the Lancers but either way it would be nice to see a competitive league just one last time.

    Oh, c’mon now…
D-1 in SD is certainly not D-1 in the southern section, but it’s certainly far better than D-1 in LA

Division 1 in SD is like D1 in LA. Really equal to a D10 in SoCal section. 13 points is all the all powerful LS could muster? Hahaha……………….

ER Defense looks really good, one of the better defenses ER has had in some time imo. Offense needs a bit of work but that medrano system and offense just finds a way to grind teams down, second half the South Hills players were dropping like flies, truthfully ER left 2 TDs on the board, clean those little mistakes and the team will be solid.

LS played a really good team from San Diego, if I’m not mistaken they had the son of Erik Weddle, LS doesn’t have the D1 standout anymore but they still have the depth to be a very very good football team, talks of their demise is foolish.

Not sure what to make of the SF pioneer game, is Pioneer that much better now or is SF down, going to be interesting to see in the next few weeks.

Cal High had the coaching advantage, I’d take Winch any day over that terrible staff over there.

    Nice win by Whittier.

No homer here, but some of the comments really demonstrate the ignorance of some our fans or haters.
Comments make it sound like La Serna lost to a nobody. People, Rancho Bernardo is San Diego D-1 Play-off team, that returns their best players from a year ago. LS no longer has their legitimate D-1 difference maker (at SDSU now) and took a RB team with one of the top prospects in the country to the wire. I get that there are no moral victories, but the effort is definitely something to start building a season around. Far cry from “licking their wounds”

Just like to send a shout out to the Maranatha Minutemen. The Football Team had to listen to all the propaganda about Arroyo and the Return of the Jedi. Minutemen left no doubt who the better team was. High School Football is played between the lines. Not on social media.

How about my Oilers? I can’t believe they hired that DC after he was fired from Schurr. He doesn’t have what it takes and it showed last night. Defense was totally lost out there. Hopefully Coach Gonzalez realizes it sooner rather than later.
